About the Team

There are a lot of activities that happen in our stores so we have a strong cross-functional team focused on doing Anything for Pets by supporting the store teams through effective communications, processes and initiatives. The Store Strategy & Operations department leads the way to support all store activities and define business-driving strategies. The Workforce, Insights & Planning team owns labor optimization and reporting needs. The Operations & Innovation team owns merchandise execution, process improvement, compliance, store technology and innovation. And the Strategy team leads all the business-driving efforts for Salon, PetsHotel, Pet Training and In-store customer experience. These teams work diligently to ensure our associates, pets and pet parents are supported, while operating efficiently to drive the business.


About the Location

Collaborative Work Environment:
At PetSmart, teamwork and connection are core to how we thrive. This role is based at our Phoenix Home Office, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days in the office each week. In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote “flex day” (with leader approval). Our hybrid approach is designed to foster strong collaboration while also supporting flexibility and individual success.


About the Job

The Senior Manager, Services Financial Planning is responsible for the development of accurate annual and seasonal financial plans (sales, margin and markdowns) that support Services’ strategy and financial objectives. This role will leverage analytical skill sets to provide data-driven recommendations and influence decision-making across the Services division. This position and their team will lead annual planning, monthly sales/margin forecasts and sales/promotional performance analysis to grow Services, a key differentiator for PetSmart.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop yearly/monthly/weekly financial plans (sales, margin, class splits) in accordance with company goals, historical performance and trend analysis
  • Conduct weekly analysis and monthly business forecasts
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to analyze and determine impact of financial forecasts on labor, staffing, operations, etc
  • Analyze sales results and anticipate trends, future opportunities and potential risks, assessing the business impact of those results and summarizing the relevant data.
  • Documents key performance indicators (KPI) that accurately assess the health of the business.
  • Supports the communication and delivery of those KPI’s with relevant stakeholders on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  • Make recommendations based on history, trend & competitive landscape to drive growth and efficiencies
  • Create, Update, and Analyze plans and performance for key initiatives and  communicate issues and opportunities
  • Support Sales/Planning team with business analysis and ad-hoc reporting
  • Partnering closely with FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis)  and SSO (Store Strategy & Operations) Leadership in determining the desired business trajectory and developing the supporting financial/unit plans
  • Conduct detailed post-season or post-event analysis, leveraging customer data when appropriate, and present insights and recommendations to leadership team
  • Partner with Salon, PetsHotel and Training Strategy teams to influence sales initiatives and promotional plans
  • Develop and present financial recommendations to Senior Management, including Directors, VP and SVP. Provides data-informed thought leadership to influence course of business strategies.
  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets into understandable stories with key takeaways
  • Recommend and implement strategies to maximize sales and margin opportunities while minimizing risk
  • Support the leadership team in the seasonal, annual, and long-range strategic and financial planning
  • Actively create and lead special projects that engage growth opportunities and meet profitability targets

While no direct budget responsibilities, outcome of work affects $1B sales plans as well as Services OG&A

 

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably with a business focus, or an equivalent blend of relevant experience and education
  • 8+ years related experience and/or training in finance, accounting or business analytics; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience in a retail planner/analyst role or similar field
  • Advanced analytical background required; Deep understanding of retail financial metrics/calculation
  • Strong initiative and collaboration; Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Proven organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills (i.e. critical and evaluative thinking) required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal required. Ability to communicate effectively across many levels within the organization
  • Ability to influence decisions by creating an excellent case for action, using analytical findings
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Expert in Excel tools, Pivot Tables, data manipulation and PowerPoint skills
