YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE

The position is for a Registrar who will be a key member of the Haematology team working across both Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital.  Their role is to provide high quality patient treatment and care, and contribute to education and clinical research.  They will manage Haematology patients receiving various forms of treatment including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted agents and supportive care.  They are expected to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, maintain professional and respectful relationships with all staff and patients, and participate in after-hours cover.  The applicant is also required to be registered with AHPRA and preferably have passed the RACP part 1 exam.

  • Effective working relationships with resident, nursing, Haematology fellow and consultants, registrars and fellows of other medial units, and allied health staff.
  • Readiness to take direction and willingness to learn from haematology consultants, supervisor of physician training, head of disease streams, other members of the team and other colleagues
  • Effective working relationships with all staff involved in clinical trials

Selection Criteria

Essential Requirements
  • Medical Qualifications registrable by the Medical Board of Victoria
  • Registrars are expected to have completed the RACP first part examination successfully. 
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines
Desirable Requirements
  • Participating in Royal Australasian College of Physicians advanced physician-training program in haematology. Participating in Royal Australasian College of Pathologists advanced-training program in haematology [if applicable] (JSAC).

  • Attendance to inpatients of the haematology unit and patients referred by other units. 
  • Attendance at selected outpatient clinics and clinics in Day Ward
  • Participates in after-hour and weekend cover roster for medical oncology/haematology wards
  • Completes all patient related documentation as required
  • Liaises and communicates with the multidisciplinary treating team
  • Contributes to team meetings and educational activities
  • Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities
  • Participates in departmental research projects and audits
  • Responds to on call commitments within an appropriate timeframe
  • Works effectively with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Close liaison with specialist members of the haematology Unit
  • Follows hospital policies and procedures
Clinical Research Protocol Development
  • Enters and manages patients on clinical trials
  • Participates in clinical trial management (if appropriate)
  • Develops clinical research protocols, including preparation, submission to committees, analysis and manuscript preparation (if appropriate)
Manuscript preparation
  • Prepares and submits manuscripts (trial results, case reports, reviews, book chapters etc.) 
Haematology Unit Protocol Development
  • Contributes to updates of the haematology treatment guidelines (if requested)
Trains residents, medical students and participates in other educational activities
  • Contributes to updates of the haematology treatment guidelines (if requested)
