Your new team

This position sits in our Chivas Brothers business. At Chivas Brothers, our 1,600-strong team across 27 sites is committed to upholding the heritage of Scotch and ensuring its sustainable future, as well as opening it up to new audiences across the globe.

The scope of Operations stretches from Procurement through conversion (distillation and maturation) and manufacturing (or bottling) to all the downstream Supply Chain activities until the final product is delivered.  In addition, Operations play a very active role in Innovation, Talent Development and Operational Risk Management.

The Gin team at Chivas Brothers work across our two Gin Distilleries in Kennington and Plymouth.  The Maintenance team works together to maintain reliable production in order to meet demand and ensure compliance in line with relevant legislation. We are also involved in Continuous Improvement projects as well as supporting the Visitor Centre team through maintenance and with initiatives that involve works within the distillery.

Your unique contribution

In the Electrical Technician role, you will be responsible for the reliability and compliance of equipment by carrying out routine maintenance, fault finding, repair and monitoring & testing. 

You will have four main areas of responsibility:

  • Equipment Reliability and Compliance – Being responsible for the reliability and compliance of all electrical equipment at Kennington Distillery.  This includes carrying out routine servicing, fault finding, repair, monitoring and testing of electrical equipment (also assist with mechanical equipment).  You will take instruction from and input records to computerised asset management system.
  • Projects and Planning – Communicating pro-actively with management to plan and co-ordinate maintenance and repair activities.  You will support electrical orientated project work scopes with electrical installations, testing, and handover.
  • Inspections – Undertaking hazardous area inspections of electrical equipment within hazardous areas and completing generated remedial works as well as installing, repairing and replacing ATEX equipment.  You will also conduct electrical inspections of fixed electrical systems, in non-hazardous areas, in accordance with national and company standards.
  • Distillery Support – There will be some out of hours working required to complete relevant maintenance tasks that will affect day to day operations as well as engineering cover if required to run on non-production days.

Who you’ll be working with

Internally, you will work closely with our on-site Maintenance team (Multi-Skilled Technician and Maintenance Manager), Production team (Distillery Operators), Education Centre team, Projects team – (Control, Electrical & Process (Scotland based)) and supporting the Plymouth distillery maintenance team as required.

Externally, you will manage contractors, including issuing permits to contractors, providing electrical isolations and supervising or assisting where required.

Your blend of talent

This position could be right for you if you:

  • Are a time served Electrician with a good knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation and ideally Compex Ex01-Ex04 (Gas) & Ex05-Ex06 (Dust) (If not held must be willing and able to pass).
  • You should have experience working within a Maintenance focused role with an understanding of Process Control systems.
  • Willingness to undertake multi-skilled training and to work to a level of multi-skilling in line with competence.
