JOB TYPE: This position will be 1099.

LOCATION: Marshall, Texas. 

COMPENSATION: $17.50-$20.00/hr. Expect to work M-F, 8 hours a day. Weekend work will be available. Starting pay range is solely based on production and may vary from day to day

POSITION SUMMARY: The Gas Meter Inspector is responsible for conducting inspections and performing basic remediation of above-ground gas meters and associated piping exposed to atmospheric conditions. The role ensures compliance with state, federal, and company regulations, with a focus on safety, accuracy, and real-time documentation using company-approved platforms.  This position requires fieldwork and demands strict adherence to operator qualification (OQ) standards. Paxon will provide support to candidates in obtaining the necessary OQs both pre-hire and post-hire to ensure compliance and long-term success.  

What you will be responsible for: (Disclaimer: The lists below are not all inclusive and may vary based on location)

  • Conduct visual and physical inspections of natural gas meters and meter sets to identify atmospheric corrosion or other integrity concerns. 
    • Inspect high-risk areas including soil-to-air interfaces, pipe supports, splash zones, and disbonded coatings. 
    • Perform basic remediation (wire brushing, cleaning, priming, painting, applying protective coatings) when directed by the Company. 
  • Identify advanced corrosion (pitting, flaking, material loss) and flag equipment as Return to Utility (RTU) for evaluation/replacement. 
  • Document all inspections in real time using Survey123 applications, ensuring complete and accurate entries. 
  • Capture required photo documentation (ERT serial numbers, ground riser views, areas of concern). 
  • Immediately report suspected or confirmed gas leaks to the Call Center and remain on site until relieved by Company personnel. 
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, including 49 CFR §192.479 and §192.481. 
  • Always follow Company emergency protocols and safety standards.  

Duties you can expect day-to-day:

  • Ensures that equipment and personnel stay on the right‐of‐way.
  • Complete and maintain all Paxon and client specific Operator Qualifications.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner.

 QUALIFICATIONS:  

You must have the following: (Minimum)

  • High School diploma
  • Valid Driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Provide reliable transportation with Valid Insurance.
  • Possess a smartphone or tablet with a data plan.
  • Ability to operate outdoors in varying weather conditions and environments.
  • You must be comfortable communicating with clients and providing excellent customer service.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office and have excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety-oriented mindset, and ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency with mobile data entry applications (Survey123, Service Suit, or equivalent).  

 If you have the following it will be a big plus: (Preferred)

  • A combination of technical experience in pipeline inspection, industrial construction, and pipeline construction of at least four (4) years.
  • NACE CIP Level 1 

 

Operator Qualification (OQ) Requirements 

Candidates must hold or be able to obtain and maintain OQs as required for each state. Paxon will assist each candidate in obtaining their qualifications.
