About this role

Regions Hospital is hiring an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Specialist II.

The ECMO specialist II is responsible for all aspects of assembling, priming, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting mechanical circulatory/ECMO equipment and circuits from set-up and throughout the management period. They work in conjunction with the bedside nurse to ensure that the patient on mechanical circulatory/ECMO support has adequate oxygenation, perfusion, corrects for proper acid base balance and hemodynamic stability within ordered parameters, and maintains other parameters as ordered by the internally credentialed ECMO provider. 

They perform the required technical skills with efficiency, accuracy and safety while anticipating, troubleshooting, and managing crisis according to policies and procedures. The ECMO Specialist will assist ECMO Leadership in the collection/review of quality improvement initiatives, using internal and external data to benchmark with the goal of establishing best practice.

Work schedule: FTE: .9 (36 hrs. weekly), 12 Hour Night Shift

Required Qualifications:

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: 

Associate degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy and/or graduation from a two-year American Medical Association approved training program in Respiratory Care OR coursework and credentials (i.e., graduate of two-year respiratory therapist program plus CRT credential) which meet the qualifications for the registry exam of the National Board for Respiratory Care may substitute for the associate degree.

Associate degree in nursing.

  • Minimum 3 years critical care experience in an acute setting

  • Minimum 2 additional years ECMO specialist experience

     

Must complete one of the following (tracked by the department):

•              Bachelor’s Degree

•              Advanced NBRC credential (ACCS, NPS, RPFT etc.)

•              Advanced nursing credential (CCRN, TNCC, CFRN etc.)

•              Adult ECMO Certification (E-AEC)

•              Other as approved by manager

 

Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:    Respiratory Therapist License issued by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
