Job Summary:
The Warehouse Cleaner will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization in the distribution center. The position will ensure that the warehouse environment is clean, safe, and well-organized, using various equipment and tools to complete daily tasks efficiently.
Essential Functions of the Position:
Regularly clean and sanitize warehouse floors, aisles, and common areas to maintain a high standard of hygiene.
Collect and dispose of waste materials, including recycling, according to company policies and environmental regulations.
Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, sweepers, and vacuums to maintain cleanliness.
Quickly respond to and clean up spills to ensure a safe working environment.
Clean and restock restrooms to ensure they are always hygienic and presentable.
Regularly dust surfaces, remove cobwebs, and ensure debris is cleared from work areas.
Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Monitor and report inventory levels of cleaning supplies and equipment, requesting replenishments as needed.
Assist with maintaining organization in storage areas, ensuring items are appropriately stored and labeled correctly.
Work closely with warehouse staff and management to address specific cleaning needs and areas of concern.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with cleaning best practices and staying updated with new cleaning methods and products.
Understand and comply with Cal OSHA and other regulatory cleaning and workplace safety requirements.
Proficiency in using essential maintenance tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and cleaning machines.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail to ensure thorough cleaning and maintenance.
Good communication skills to interact with team members and report issues or concerns.
Abilities:
Ability to operate cleaning equipment and tools effectively; knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling practices.
Physical Requirements:
Stand and walk for extended periods, typically 8-hour shifts.
Lift and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Perform repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, and handling products.
Climbing ladders or scaffolding to perform specific maintenance tasks at elevated heights.
Maintain clear communication with team members.
Move quickly and efficiently to manage workload.
Maintain physical stamina to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to perform tasks that require fine motor skills, such as using tools or handling small objects.
Work Conditions:
Work Hours: Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays, as needed.
Environment: While primarily indoor, climate-controlled, with adequate lighting and ventilation, duties may primarily be performed in a warehouse setting. This may include exposure to various temperatures, dust, noise, and moving machinery. The cleaner must navigate around large storage racks and equipment.
Primary Work Stations: Primarily work within the main areas of responsibility, including warehouse floors, storage areas, restrooms, and common areas. Duties will also involve working in spaces where inventory and equipment are stored and ensuring these areas remain organized and free from hazards.
Dress Code: Durable, comfortable clothing, such as work pants and a work shirt. A strong focus on maintaining a safe environment for employees and self. Adherence to health and safety guidelines is paramount, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Exposure: May be exposed to moving mechanical parts and cleaning chemicals.
Noise Level: Usually low to moderate, with occasional loud periods from equipment and tools.
Interaction: Constant interaction with team members in a fast-paced retail environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Previous experience in a similar cleaning role, preferably in a warehouse or industrial setting.
