Job Summary:

The First Tee Starter/Player Assistant role at Palmetto Bluff will be an essential point of contact for our members and guests. The First Tee position will be responsible for making sure all our members and guests have the appropriate information about the course prior to playing. The Player Assistant will make sure all golfers have an enjoyable on-course experience along with tracking pace of play.

Essential Job Functions:

Job duties include, although are not limited to:

  • All groups will be greeted and addressed before they reach the first tee.
  • It will be the duty of the first tee to ensure appropriate spacing of groups on the course, by waiting to start groups until prior groups are walking onto the first green.
  • The First Tee Starter is an extension of the Golf Operations and needs to function with the same sense of urgency. Prompt service and quick reaction to special requests are the standard.
  • Before the first shot is hit by a group on the first tee, the staff member at this station will supply the group with pertinent information regarding the day’s play, including maintenance matters, cart restrictions, exit posts, rakes inside the bunkers, weather information, upcoming events, comfort station information, PACE GPS basics, etc.
  • The First Tee will be responsible for verifying proper first tee setup (tees, pencils, ball markers, divot repair tools, scorecards, yardage books, hole location sheet, sunscreen, bug spray, etc) and coordinating starting times of all groups for the day and ensuring proper spacing.
  • The Player Assistant will make a goal to see every group once on the front nine and once on the back nine.
  • Throughout the day the position will be responsible for ensuring smooth pace and proper spacing of the groups.
  • The Player Assistant will always keep amenities in his/her cart to provide service as they make their laps around the course.
  • It is important to remember that the job of the Player Assistant is not just to ride around in the cart. They should also take time to get out of the cart and attend the flagstick for players; greet players, rake bunkers, etc.
  • The Player Assistant will also communicate with the Starter position to take a proactive approach to possible problem groups. This will help alleviate pace issues before they start.
  • While driving around the golf course make sure to place all rakes in bunkers (with the rake end inside the bunker and handle outside), pick up all trash and debris, and pick up broken tees off of par 3’s and check sand levels on the tee box.
  • The Player Assistant should take excess trash out of player’s carts, take dry towels to players when it is raining, and offer added services and take advantage of any other opportunities to create lasting memories.
  • Other duties assigned by the golf professional staff.

Qualifications:

  • Must be engaging and outgoing.
  • Experience at high-end resort or private club operations preferred.
  • Must be willing to learn operations.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Highly ethical.
  • Extremely versatile individual.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, fluency in English.

Physical Demands:

  • Most work tasks are performed outdoors.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and listening occur continuously in the process of communicating with members, supervisors and subordinates.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment
  • Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed.
