Department Overview

PG&E’s Gas Operations and Gas Engineering organizations are focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. The Organizations are responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration, and emergency response.

 

  • Gas Operations oversees the natural gas transmission and distribution operations. The team maintains and operates approximately 6,438 miles of gas transmission pipelines, approximately 42,141 miles of main distribution, 4.5 million natural gas customer accounts, three PG&E-owned storage facilities with 102 BCF capacity, nine compressor stations with 175K HP, and 5,000 measurement and control facilities.
  • Gas Engineering aids in the operations, maintenance, construction, and planning for $21 billion in gas assets that transport, store, compress, regulate, measure, and deliver gas approximately 4.5 million customers. 

 

Position Summary

 

This position is part of PG&E's ERDP Gas Summer Internship Program where work assignments will be in either the Gas Operations or Gas Engineering organization. The work location to be determined within our service territory.

 

Engineering Interns will have the opportunity to participate in the Summer Intern Program designed to help students gain valuable knowledge and experience in either PG&E’s Gas Operations or Gas Engineering. Each engineering intern will be placed in a specific department within Gas Operations or Gas Engineering and will be expected to contribute as a valuable team member.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 

 

The hourly rate for a bachelor’s degree ranges from $24.52 to $29.81 and for a master’s degree is $35.37.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates are currently enrolled pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree full-time in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related engineering fields.
  • Students must be continuing education towards degree during and/or after internship. Students must be returning back to school in the Fall of 2026 continuing full-time enrollment.
  • Must be in good academic standing.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • FE/EIT certification
  • Former PG&E Intern
  • Work experience or internships in utilities, municipalities, construction, or other pipeline related fields
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction

 

PG&E is unable to provide VISA sponsorship to students on an F-1, J-1, OPT or other student visa for this position.
