About this role

Entity: Owensboro Health Regional Hospital | Department: Patient Transport | Work Hours: 11-7:30M-F 11-7:30 Sat-Sun | Weekend Requirements: Every Other | 0.5 FTE

Job Summary:

Transports patients, specimens, and equipment throughout the facility.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Transports patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed to designated sites as requested, including patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips, monitors, and other equipment.

  • Provides continuous oxygen to patients by setting the oxygen tanks to the same level already being provided.

  • Assists patients with entering and exiting vehicles, including transfer from or to wheelchairs or stretchers.

  • Delivers equipment and specimens to requesting team members or department.

  • Assists team members with removal of deceased bodies from units and transport to morgue.

  • Greets and provides information and direction to patients and visitors.

  • May respond to Code Blue alerts including the administration of CPR.

  • May operate lifts and assists nursing personnel with individuals requiring two or more team members to lift.

  • Uses correct lifting techniques to ensure safety to the patient and team members.

  • May set up traction in preparation for clinicians to fit to patients, assists in adjusting traction already in use, and removes traction from bed and room once discontinued per physician orders.

  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.

  • Works under general supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Applies more advanced skills and knowledge in the area of specialization.

Position Requirements:

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years relevant experience preferred

Education

  • High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher preferred

Additional Education Information

  • None

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position
