Job Description:

The EHR Solutions Architect III is responsible for the strategic design, implementation, and optimization of electronic health record systems within OU Health. This expert level role involves leading high-impact, high-visibility projects directly related to our strategic initiatives, providing advanced technical leadership and serving as a true Subject Matter Expert for the Care Delivery Solutions team to ensure that EHR solutions align with the long-term goals of the organization and comply with healthcare regulations. This role demands a high level of technical expertise to ensure the EHR systems are scalable, reliable, and secure. The EHR Solutions Architect III creates comprehensive architecture blueprints and ensures alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements, leads the deployment of EHR solutions, and ensures seamless data flow and interoperability. A broad expertise of the EHR as well as related integrated equipment will be required to successfully develop solutions to meet the high complexity of OU Health needs.  This includes but is not limited to a knowledge of radiological, lab, and/or other medical devices, printing methodologies and hardware, and technological devices.  The EHR Solutions Architect III collaborates with senior executives in Enterprise Technology Solutions (ETS) and Operations to ensure our Epic roadmap is aligned to our highest-level system initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop long-term strategies for EHR system architecture and implementation. 

  • Align EHR initiatives with organizational goals and regulatory requirements. 

  • Provide high-level leadership and vision for EHR projects, driving innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Provide expert level designs and recommendations for large scale and broad-spectrum solutions and projects where scope includes the EHR, other software, hardware, medical devices, and other technologies.

  • Lead EHR implementation of large-scale optimization efforts from inception to completion. 

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, manage timelines, resources, and budgets. 

  • Design and optimize complex EHR systems for scalability, reliability, and performance. 

  • Continuously evaluate and improve system architecture to meet evolving healthcare needs. 

  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and system specifications.

  • Collaborate with senior management, clinical leaders, ETS teams, and external vendors to gather requirements and align on objectives. 

  • Ensure clear communication and effective collaboration among all stakeholders. 

  • Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure successful delivery of EHR solutions.

  • Mentor and guide junior team members, promoting a culture of innovation and best practices. 

  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting and technical support for complex issues. 

  • Foster professional growth and development within the technical team.

  • Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in EHR technology and healthcare IT. 

  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in EHR systems and processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required
Experience Requirements: 5 or more years of applicable IT or healthcare experience required. Multiple Epic implementation experience preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:

  • Epic certification or third-party application certification in specified areas required.

  • Multiple Epic certifications or other application certifications preferred.
     

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Expert understanding of electronic health records (EHR) systems, healthcare workflows, and clinical processes.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.

  • Strong understanding of Agile development practices.

  • Expert knowledge of healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA, HITECH, and Meaningful Use.

  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and make data-driven decisions.
