Job Description:

The Business Intelligence Developer II creates analytics content based upon specifications from end-user data needs or those communicated by Business Intelligence colleagues to support end users and leadership. The BID II possesses a strong understanding of the underlying data model and is skillful in development of data queries and data interaction. The BID II is responsible for responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data analysis tools and platforms that translate raw data into actionable insights for businesses. They accomplish this by development and maintenance of paginated reports, datasets, dashboards, reports, and visualizations within Epic and third-party tools (e.g.  PowerBI, Tableau, etc.).

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develops moderate to complex SQL solutions for creation and maintenance of analytics assets

  • Configures and tests EHR- (such as Epic) released and Foundation System content for applications (such as Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer data models, Radar dashboards, and Cogito SQL)

  • Designs and creates custom content to display EHR (such as Epic) data from databases (such as Chronicles, Clarity, and Caboodle) in organizationally designated tools (such as EHR, Tableau, PowerBI)

  • Distributes analytics content to data consumers and is able to anticipate needs with minimal prompting

  • Provides thorough education of tool/data usage to end users without support

  • Provides development support for projects and can leads projects with some support.

  • Reviews peer reports for validity

  • Performs moderate to complex peer review of code (such as SQL, DAX)

  • Works with subject matter experts to understand the needs of data consumers

  • Responds with professional communication to triage and/or resolve requests from end users independently

  • Tests analytics build in specified testing environments, including designing basic test scripts when appropriate

  • Reviewing upgrade documentation for database (such as Clarity and Caboodle) features

  • Maintains analytics catalog and metadata records

  • Develops and maintains strong operational relationships

General Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree required.

Experience Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in analytics (Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, Data Science, etc.) including at least 1 year experience using SQL, relational databases and integration tools required.

  • Healthcare IT experience preferred in analyzing, programming, designing, testing, and/or implementing computer-based systems.

  • Prior experience working with an accounts receivable system or prior experience working with an EMR system is preferred.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

  • Cogito Fundamentals

  • Cogito Tools Administration

  • Clarity Data Model

  • Caboodle Data Model

  • Access, Clinical, and/or Revenue Data Model(s)

For preferred items below, OU Health may require incumbents to complete additional trainings, including those noted below, as part of their job requirements. Accreditation(s)/Certification(s)/License(s)/Registration(s), as appropriate, will be required no more than three months after course completion.

  • Data Visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)

  • Additional Accreditation(s)/Certification(s)/License(s)/Registration(s) as requested to support evolving businesses

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all business partners across the enterprise. Mentors junior level developers on advancing their communication effectiveness.

  • Ability to effectively translate all complexities of customers requests or stated needs into meaningful business requirements with no support, advises junior level developers in this effort.

  • Participates and contributes to development of designing and implementing workflow processes and standards for the team.

  • Critical thinking and an analytical mindset with demonstrated ability to both rapidly synthesize problems and generate logical, solutions-focused responses.

  • Proficient SQL developer with understanding of relational database concepts and has competence using related BI tools (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server and associated tools).

  • Engages in junior level developer peer review of code and tool development, both providing guidance to those junior and incorporating new learning from senior level developers with demonstrated growth of coding skillset.

  • Proficiency in design, build, and maintain data analysis tools, translate raw data into actionable insights for business. Uses analytics assets (e.g. metrics, dashboards, reports, self-service analysis tools, etc.), both of general industry standard analytics tools and those inline of an Electronic Health Record (EHR) such as Epic, for enterprise use. Advises and mentor junior level developers in the same.

  • Proficient understanding of relational database concepts, creating data structures, and data modeling. Engages in advancing knowledge to execute progressively complex development skills (such as constructing SQL stored procedures, views, and functions, including performance tuning, indexing and design patterns).

  • Proficient understanding of using and/or rapidly assimilating knowledge of various third-party tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, etc.) and demonstrates progressively maturing skill navigating complex relationships across multiple departments and businesses.

  • Solves moderate to advanced complexity problems and provides guidance to more junior developers.

  • Strong understanding of healthcare business process and technology preferred.

  • Intermediate understanding of clinical workflows and terminology preferred.

  • Prior experience working with an EHR and/or accounts receivable system is preferred.

  • Ability to effectively work independently and within teams.

  • Proficient knowledge of IT solutions and interfacing preferred.

  • Must be able to drive personal vehicle to assigned sites to complete work

  • Must be able to travel in state and out of state on occasion.
