Providing compassionate care to the children, teenagers and young adults of Central Florida for more than 30 years, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is located on the downtown Orlando campus and includes 156 licensed beds for specialized care for children as well as the Bert Martin’s Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center, offering trauma care for children as the pediatric site of the Orlando Health ORMC Level One Trauma Center. State-of-the-art pediatric services are provided by a comprehensive staff that includes pediatric subspecialty physicians and a nursing team that is “Magnet” recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. The hospital also has earned national recognition for 12 consecutive years as a “Best Children’s Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report and was included, together with Orlando Health ORMC, in the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list for 2021.


Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children
Mobile ICU is seeking Critical Care Transport Paramedic.The Critical Care Transport Paramedic is responsible for the safe transport and maintenance of high-quality clinical care for critically ill
and/or injured patients requiring advanced life-support (ALS) or critical care transport (CCT). Transports patients via ambulance to/from Orlando Health facilities, assesses patient needs, and develops care plans in coordination with other healthcare providers to ensure the best care possible. This position is intended to be used at ORMC and APH.


Responsibilities

Essential Functions


• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient being treated/transported.
• Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development over the lifespan, assesses data reflective of the patient’s status,
and interprets necessary information to identify patient requirements relative to age-specific needs.
• Prescribes, delegates, coordinates, and documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner, including but not limited to patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety.
• Provides and documents individualized patient care, including patient and personal safety, patient assessments in collaboration with all other healthcare providers, patient reassessments, maintenance of airway patency, airway intervention, IV access, ECG
interpretations, dysrhythmia recognition, drug administration, and all other invasive or non-invasive treatments/therapies.
• Obtains and maintains proficiency with electronic charting and documentation systems.
• Demonstrates competency in paramedic and critical care skills. Uses patient care/unit equipment as defined by manufacturer and unit-specific competencies. Adheresto protocols and standards of care as defined and/or assigned by the program Medical Director.
• Prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Standards of Care and Practice.
• Effectively multitasks, demonstrates effective problem-solving techniques, and conflict resolution strategies.
• Exhibits effective leadership qualities and delegates tasks and duties to other healthcare team members according to patient needs.
• Maintains situational awareness of the environment, including scene safety, patient condition, operational needs. Considers the
capabilities, qualifications, and limitations of collaborating team members
• Safely operates in and around emergency vehicles and assists with vehicle operations, when applicable.
• Communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition or concerns to other healthcare team members.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state,
and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.


Other Related Functions


• Professionally represents Orlando Health, the associated transport team, and the Critical Care Transport Paramedic role.
• Participates in continuous quality and process improvement activities as assigned.
• Demonstrates awareness of legal and regulatory issues applicable to the position.
• Ensures patient rights are guarded and respected and complies with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Recognizes and appropriately responds to physically and/or emotionally stressful situations.
• Practices efficient and responsible use of supplies.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and organized working environment.
• Attends and completes all required Orlando Health mandatory education, continuing medical education activities, and meetings.
• Participates in activities related to, but not limited to, safety, education, quality assurance, public relations, marking, outreach, etc.
• Assumes personal responsibility for professional development, continuing education, and maintenance of all required certifications.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by program leadership or the Medical Director. 


Qualifications

Education/Training


• Graduate of an approved paramedic program.
• Formal Critical Care Paramedic training program (UMBC CCEMT-P; UF-CCP, similar) preferred.


Licensure/Certification

 

Maintains certification as a Paramedic (PMD) in the State of Florida.
• Maintains current American Heart Association (AHA) certifications in BLS/Healthcare, ACLS, and PALS.
• Maintains current certification in Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS).
• Obtains and maintains International Board of Specialty Certifications Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C) or Flight Paramedic (FP-C) certification within six (6) months of hire.


Experience 


• Two (2) years of experience working in a prehospital, hospital, or non-transport paramedic position.
• Experience with an emergency EMS transport agency is preferred.
• Experience in a Critical Care ground or air transport system is preferred.
