About the role

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for performing preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of fixed and mobile plant equipment used in Orica’s explosive operations at Bulyanhulu Mine.

 The role ensures equipment is maintained to OEM and Orica standards, supporting safe and uninterrupted underground blasting and product delivery.

The technician will diagnose faults, repair systems, and conduct inspections, contributing to asset reliability, operational readiness, and statutory compliance.

What you will be doing

 

  • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on plant equipment (e.g., ANFO charging trucks, compressors, pumps, blending systems, etc.).

 

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical faults in hydraulic, pneumatic, and drive systems.

 

  • Perform breakdown maintenance in a timely and safe manner to restore operational capacity.

 

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, repairs, and parts usage in the maintenance management system.

 

  • Comply with all safety protocols, lock-out tag-out (LOTO), and permit-to-work procedures.

 

  • Identify potential equipment failures and recommend proactive solutions to prevent downtime.

 

  • Ensure availability of tools, spare parts, and consumables through regular inventory checks and requests.

 

  • Support installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of mechanical systems and equipment.

 

  • Collaborate with Electrical and Blasting teams to coordinate multi-disciplinary repair and maintenance tasks.

 

  • Assist with modifications and improvement projects to enhance equipment reliability and performance.

What you will bring

  • Trade Certification or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field.

 

  • At least 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance in a mining or heavy industrial environment.

 

  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

 

  • Familiarity with safety procedures in explosive environments and underground operations.

 

  • Competence in reading technical diagrams and using diagnostic tools.

 

  • Basic computer skills for reporting (Excel, Word, CMMS systems such as SAP).

  • Operates under underground mine conditions with exposure to noise, dust, and confined spaces.

 

  • Works in rotating shifts as per site requirements.

 

  • Requires high-level coordination with site teams and external vendors for repairs and supplies.
