About this role

$40-$60 hourly- Associate's Degree RN (ASN)  

$45-$65 hourly- Bachelor's Degree RN (BSN)

Overview

The nurse facilitates mental health rehabilitation interventions and necessary supports to assist individuals with mental illness and substance abuse problems. The nurse is responsible for ensuring the residential Oregon Administrative Rules for health services are met. This includes making sure residents get the medical care they need and may take clients to provider appointments. Oversees the medication administration program for the facility including reconciling medications between the medication administration record, physician orders, and pharmacy delivered medications in accordance with Options policies. The nurse promotes the physical and mental health of residents by applying the nursing processes.  Coordinates with the pharmacy and with medical services for residents. The nurse ensures all prescriber orders and treatments are followed. Provides training to staff and residents on medications, nutrition, and overall wellness. Runs resident education groups. Nurses will work across programs as the need arises to cover nursing tasks including helping with injections, nursing delegated tasks and Medication Administration Records, etc.

 

Responsibilities

Participates in the admission of new residents. 

Screens residents, performs nursing assessments and monthly nursing assessment updates. 

Adheres to Oregon State Board of Nursing Standards and Scope of Practice for the Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse.

Clarifies initial or hospital discharge medication orders, primary care provider and specialist orders, and contacts the psychiatrist to review the resident’s status and medication plans. Ensures medications are started and in place when admitted.

Adds provider orders to the agency specified Electronic Health Record and performs a medication reconciliation on a monthly basis. Performs any communication with the pharmacy to ensure the reconciliation is accurate. 

Provides training and technical expertise to staff on medication passing and treatments as appropriate. 

Ensures delegation and supervision occurs for delegated tasks such as but not limited to Insulin, dressing changes, etc. as needed in accordance with the administrative rules of the Board of Nursing.

Ensures that the facility staff follow the agency medication administration policy and makes suggestions for changes.  

Ensures that medication orders are reviewed at least every six months by the Licensed Medical Provider. 

Ensures the medication-controlled substance log is updated and accurate. Monitors safety and security of the treatment environment.

Transports residents to facilitate resident-directed services and is required to drive. 

 

Qualifications

Experience working with mental health clients and co-occurring disorders preferred.

Unrestricted, valid Oregon license as a Registered Nurse required.

Based upon level of education and experience, MHACBO certification of either a QMHA or QMHP, must be attained within 30 days of hire. Please visit www.mhacbo.org for more information.

Candidates must be able to use e-mail, compose documents, save and locate documents electronically, and learn to use our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Proficiency in Word and other MS Office applications preferred. 

Must pass state-required background and DMV checks; possess a valid OR driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Candidate must be able to work independently and flexibly, under general supervision.
