About the Job

The Associate Category Development Manager role supporting the Growth Channel, is a customer facing role within the Opella Category Management team. Helping the Sales Lead develop customer and channel strategies while driving key customer priorities, this role plays a critical role in all customer touchpoints, including monthly business meetings, Line Reviews, and JBP/Top to Tops.  This role also has responsibility for tracking, understanding, and diagnosing business performance, consulting on ongoing reporting needs, and supporting assortment & shelving recommendations. 

The role is highly collaborative, providing support across all Opella’s categories and working closely with other members of the Category Management team, the Account Management team, Sales Strategy, and the broader Commercial Strategy team.  The Associate Category Development Manager has a passion for data-driven insight and customer partnerships, helping to build compelling category sales stories that drive alignment with the retailer to generate mutual growth opportunities. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong retailer relationships through unbiased category support, enhancing Dollar General customer relationship, by delivering best in class insights.    
  • Collaborate with Sales Team, bringing together knowledge of retailer, shopper, and category to identify strategic opportunities and creative solutions, leveraging insights including growth drivers and/or competitive threats, share shifts and shopper trends.
  • Manage Channel Shopper Researching initiatives, including retailer specific Thought Leadership, unique channel dynamics, and Shelf Research. 
  • Unlock customer opportunities through compelling story telling by leveraging a broad range of data sources including retailer POS (1010), syndicated consumption data, loyalty data, consumer panel data and shopper insights.
  • Track business trends and impact of changes to Assortment, Merchandising, Pricing and Shelving activities to identify issues and opportunities.
  • Support development of customer specific line review content for all categories, in partnership with Sales Lead and Sales Strategy
  • Consult on customer-specific Assortment, Merchandising, Pricing and Shelving (AMPS) recommendations.
  • Partner across the Category Management team to share best practices and learnings.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as required

About You:

  • B.A./B.S. required
  • Minimum 2+ years of proven delivery in CPG, preferably within OTC/Healthcare/Personal Care.
  • Experience directly communicating with retailers preferred.
  • Strong business acumen; comfortable in analytics and highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential solutions and communicate them effectively
  • Experience utilizing Nielsen or Circana syndicated data, retailer data platforms and Numerator.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate several sources of data to develop actionable insights.
  • Ability to bring outstanding interpersonal skills (including excellent oral and written communication), strong problem-solving skills to any discussion with colleagues and/or customers.

The salary range for this position is:  $90,000.00 - $130,000.00
