Job Description:

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Clinical Excellence serves as a key member of Tennessee Oncology’s executive leadership team, responsible for providing strategic oversight of all clinical, research, and quality functions across the organization. This role ensures the highest standards of patient care, safety, and regulatory compliance efficiency while driving innovation and clinical excellence throughout the practice.

The SVP oversees the integration and collaboration between nursing, lab, imaging, surgical, research, and quality operations to streamline workflows and enhance patient and provider experience, aligning each under a unified framework for operational performance, safety, and outcomes. This leader will also be responsible for setting and executing short and long-term strategic objectives for each clinical department, in coordination with the CEO, COO, and physician leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Strategic and Executive Leadership

  • Develop and execute comprehensive clinical and research strategies that support the organization’s mission, vision, and growth objectives.
  • Partner with the CEO, COO, and physician leaders to align clinical operations with organizational priorities, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality outcomes across all service lines.
  • Set measurable annual goals and key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring accountability and transparency in progress toward organizational excellence.

Operational Collaboration

  • Partner with the COO to drive alignment and execution of shared operational goals.
  • Provide direct oversight of the Research Division, including all clinical trials, regulatory adherence, and sponsor relations, ensuring full compliance with FDA, GCP, IRB, and institutional standards.
  • Oversee the clinical quality department, ensuring continuous readiness for accreditation surveys, compliance audits, and adherence to all CMS, HIPAA, other regulatory bodies, and state/federal requirements.
  • Partner with the finance and data analytics teams to monitor and report performance metrics, identify efficiency opportunities, and drive cost-effective, high-quality outcomes.

Quality, Safety, and Regulatory Excellence

  • Establish and support an integrated clinical quality framework that ensures patient safety and regulatory compliance consistency across all TO locations.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, evidence-based practice, and proactive compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all clinical and research areas.

Research and Innovation

  • Oversee the full continuum of research operations, including strategic expansion of clinical trials, sponsor engagement, and adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
  • Foster collaboration between clinical and research leaders to advance precision medicine, maximize enrollment opportunities, and ensure delivery to external stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation in clinical workflows, leveraging data, technology, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance patient outcomes.

Leadership Development and Culture

  • Build, mentor, and retain high-performing teams through clear performance expectations, professional development, and succession planning.
  • Champion an organizational culture of excellence, compassion, and continuous improvement consistent with Tennessee Oncology’s values.
  • Serve as a visible and trusted leader across clinical sites, reinforcing alignment between frontline staff and executive priorities.
  • Drives strategic projects that enhance efficiency, research excellence, and clinical quality outcomes across all sites of service.
  • Cultivates a culture of excellence, transparency, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and ensures compliance with all Tennessee Oncology policies and standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Deep knowledge of healthcare regulatory frameworks (CMS, FDA, HIPAA, OSHA, and state/federal accreditation standards).
  • Strong business and operational acumen with experience managing complex budgets and resource allocations.
  • Ability to translate clinical and research data into strategic insights and performance improvements.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across clinical and administrative domains.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional alignment and lead through influence and accountability.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical operations, performance improvement methodologies, and quality assurance systems.
  • Skilled in data-driven decision-making, operational analytics, and performance benchmarking
  • Outstanding communication, leadership, and collaboration skills with the ability to engage effectively with clinical, administrative, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead through organizational change, fostering innovation, accountability, and a proactive compliance culture.
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving capabilities.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) required; advanced clinical degree (MSN, DNP, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience, including at least 5 years in an executive or senior operational role overseeing multiple departments or divisions.
  • Extensive experience in clinical research operations and regulatory compliance, including GCP, FDA, and IRB oversight.
  • Proven record of success leading multi-site, multidisciplinary clinical operations with emphasis on oncology or specialty care settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, build cohesive leadership teams, and execute strategic initiatives.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Certification in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Six Sigma, or equivalent preferred.
  • Additional certification in executive healthcare management or regulatory affairs is desirable.

Tennessee Oncology’s in house pharmacy, Park Pharmacy, stocks oncology and hematology medications not readily available at community retail pharmacies. A URAC accredited Specialty Pharmacy, Park provides insurance and benefits investigation, prior authorization services for insurance coverage, co-pay assistance through manufacturer or foundation programs, extensive medication education, and access to a pharmacist 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
