Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Director of Imaging, the PET/CT Technologist is responsible for the operation of a hybrid PET/CT scanner to perform diagnostic CT exams as well as PET/CT imaging according to the physician’s orders and the radiologist’s guidelines.  Follows rules and regulations established by the NRC and state-licensing agencies in the proper method of handling radioactive isotopes and the provision of quality patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of CT cross-sectional anatomy, positioning, radiographic techniques, and radiation protection concepts.
  • Insures proper administration of oral and intravenous contrast material when appropriate.
  • Measures, administers, and records isotope dosage following established departmental procedures.
  • Follows radiation safety techniques in usage and disposal of radioactive isotopes in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Explains procedures to patients and addresses their concerns.
  • Orients and mentors new staff members.
  • Demonstrates outstanding customer service and displays appropriate behavior.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with Tennessee Oncology Policies and Procedures Manual and supplemental procedure established for its Imaging Centers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an accredited or registered school of Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine required.
  • ARRT certification in Computerized Tomography preferred.
  • NMTCB or ARRT certification in PET or Nuclear Medicine required.
  • Minimum one year CT experience required.  May waive with Director of Imaging approval.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology or equal years of experience in Nuclear Medicine and/or PET with NMTCB or equivalent certification preferred but not required.
  • Current Certification in Basic Life Support required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing and able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment assisted up to 50 lbs.

Self -administered medications, those taken by mouth or injected by the patient, comprise approximately 40% of these investigative medications. Tennessee Oncology’s in house pharmacy, Park Pharmacy, stocks oncology and hematology medications not readily available at community retail pharmacies. A URAC accredited Specialty Pharmacy, Park provides insurance and benefits investigation, prior authorization services for insurance coverage, co-pay assistance through manufacturer or foundation programs, extensive medication education, and access to a pharmacist 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
