Hours: Part-time (primarily 3:00 PM - 6:30 PM from Monday - Friday with occasional Saturdays and some evening meetings)
Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
Summary:
We are seeking Afterschool Staff to assist with the afterschool programs for children ages five to twelve. The Afterschool Staff will assist in planning activities and promoting development that is centered around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The afterschool programs run for 12 months. This position is part-time and reports directly to the Afterschool Site Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Work with various ages of children and adults while showing enthusiasm for science-based education.
Responsible for following planned lessons for the core service areas.
Provide age appropriate and open gender programs and activities centered around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education.
Ensuring that cultural diversity and educational programs are implemented.
Facilitate interactive programs such as experiments, games, crafts, and other hands-on activities.
Assist with preparation and clean-up of all activities and meals.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be at least 16 years old.
Experience of working closely with youth, including but not limited to teaching, coaching, camp counseling, tutoring, and mentoring, is preferred.
Working towards a certificate OR in related areas of youth development.
CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
Bilingual (English and Spanish) is strongly desired.
Must exhibit good leadership qualities.
Work independently and in group settings.
Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, negative skin tuberculosis test, and possess a valid drivers license with a good history.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
Will sometimes work extended/odd hours including weekends, holidays and some night programs.
Must be able to travel long distances across the zoo.
Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head and climb.
Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
