Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Internal Auditor to join our team at Old Mutual Limited (OML). This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of modern assurance and advisory practices within the life assurance domain of a diversified financial services group.
The role is responsible for the delivery of audit engagements, support in the development of the annual audit plan and delivery of the audit plan, identification of modern data analytic continuous monitoring techniques and robotic audit opportunities within the portfolio, updating the audit universe, execution of audits and preparation of audit reports.
Audit Delivery & Assurance
Contribute to the development and ongoing maintenance of the Life Assurance audit plan, including the audit universe, risk assessment processes, and the identification of emerging, strategic, regulatory, and technology-enabled risks.
Execute audits and management-requested reviews in line with the approved audit plan, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines, scope, and quality standards.
Contribute to Combined Assurance planning and coordination across first, second, and third lines of defence to ensure appropriate assurance coverage and minimise duplication.
Perform audit engagements in accordance with the GIA Methodology, IIA Standards, and internal quality requirements, demonstrating sound professional judgement and risk-based thinking.
Produce high-quality, insightful audit reports that clearly articulate key risks, root causes, and control weaknesses, with pragmatic, value-adding management actions and agreed timelines.
Facilitate effective engagement with management to agree audit findings, risk ratings, and action plans, applying strong influencing and communication skills.
Perform robust root-cause analysis and provide forward-looking recommendations to strengthen the control environment, enhance operational efficiency, and support sustainable risk management.
Execute issues assurance activities, including validation of management actions, ensuring timely closure and adherence to quality standards.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
Support the Audit Manager and Audit Lead in building and maintaining effective working relationships with key stakeholders across the Life Assurance value chain, including actuarial, finance, operations, risk, compliance, and technology.
Act as a credible audit partner by providing clear insights, constructive challenge, and practical advice that supports business objectives while maintaining independence.
Operational Excellence & Future-Fit Practices
Manage portfolio-level audit statistics, dashboards, and monthly reporting by engaging with first- and second-line stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely, and meaningful management information.
Leverage data analytics, automation, and digital audit techniques where applicable to enhance audit coverage, efficiency, and insight.
Collaborate with IT and data analytics teams to support integrated audit approaches and identify automation opportunities.
Continuously identify opportunities to improve audit processes, methodologies, and ways of working in support of a modern, agile, and technology-enabled audit function.
Comply with the IIA Code of Ethics, professional standards, and all GIA policies, procedures, and governance requirements.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Relevant University Degree
CA (SA), CIA would be advantageous
Experience
Minimum 5 years experience in auditing and / or risk management (ERM)Solid background in the financial services industry, preferably in blue chip/global companies
Solid understanding of the life insurance environment incl. distribution, operations and products.
Knowledge of key areas such as sales and new business, underwriting, claims, customer service and retention
Knowledge of the regulatory environment for life insurance
Experience in client relationship management at senior levels
Ethics and Integrity Champion: Demonstrates high ethical standards and promotes a culture of integrity and accountability.
Demonstrates strong technology acumen, with the ability to leverage digital tools and emerging technologies—including AI and data analytics—to enhance monitoring, reporting, and audit/risk management processes
Experience in integrated assurance approaches utilising data analytic techniques will be advantageous
