Position Summary

Join our dynamic team as a Structural Dynamics Engineer and become a vital contributor to support NASA as an Oceaneering Teammate on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract. As an integral part of our organization, you'll play a crucial role in the Structures Loads and Dynamics section in the Engineering Department on the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) Contract.

Someone in this role would typically have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a minimum of one (1) years of related experience.  This position can be hired at any level in our professional career framework, depending on business need at the time of hire.
International travel may be required. Straight time overtime, 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off), and/or 1 day of telework per week may be available 


Duties And Responsibilities

Some of your major responsibilities will include:

  • Perform finite element model checks, dynamic model reductions, coupled loads analysis, and interpret results.
  • Perform dynamic analyses using commercial and in-house codes, write new simulation scripts and code, typically with Python, as needed.
  • Perform vibroacoustic analysis on finite element models in preparation for acoustic and random vibration tests.
  • Perform modal analysis on finite element models in preparation for modal tests.
  • Identify critical modes for a component or integrated system.
  • Review and process modal and structural data (analytical and test).
  • Develop and/or review test plans and procedures, documenting test results.
  • Perform signal processing on analytical and/or test data.
  • Perform model correlation by adjusting analytical models based on test data to better align the model with actual hardware. 
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a closely related field and a minimum of one (1) year of experience. 
  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience with desktop software applications, MS Office is required
  • Experience in finite element model manipulation and coupled loads analysis
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, and/or C/C++

PREFERRED:

  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++
  • Experience using MSC NASTRAN with FEMAP as a pre/post-processor.
  • Experience or relative coursework in Systems Engineering.
  • Experience or Proficiency with Component Mode Synthesis and Craig Bampton model reductions.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency maybe a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
