Position Overview

The Coding and Compliance Analyst, PT & Rehab is responsible for ensuring accurate coding, billing compliance and documentation integrity across physical therapy and rehab clinical services. Coordinates activities to monitor provider documentation for accuracy, regulatory adherence, and proper billing. Researches and responds to inquiries regarding coding and documentation compliance. Develops educational materials and delivers training sessions to address new requirements, regulatory changes and identified risk areas. Collaborates with leadership to identify performance trends and regulatory focus areas, implementing targeted education to mitigate compliance risks. Supports professional development initiatives across all Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation specialties.

$27.80 - $41.69 per hour, depending on experience

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assess coding accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures; identify areas of potential risk.

  • Perform and review provider audits; prepare summary reports for the Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance and submit for review to the UHS Compliance Committee.

  • Collaborate with Physician Billing Services, Revenue Cycle, Insurance and Customer Service Representatives, Supervisors, Site Managers, Compliance teams, Denials teams and Internal Auditing to resolve billing and coding issues.

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of physical therapy and rehabilitation regulations related to revenue cycle processes, documentation standards, payer requirements, and reimbursement impacts for all payor plans.

  • Research coding issues using medical reference resources; ensure compliance with payment and reimbursement systems.

  • Analyze coding-related denials, edits, and charges to identify deficiencies, optimize coding practices, and prevent non-compliant behaviors.

  • Review bell curve reports and financial data to detect coding variations, insufficient documentation, or missed revenue opportunities.

  • Act as a resource for PT and Rehab Supervisors, Managers, Directors and Physician Practice leadership.

  • Maintain current knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding principles, payer guidelines, and legislative changes as it relates to Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation services.

  • Provide ongoing education to UHS providers to ensure compliance and optimize reimbursement.

  • Represent UHS PT & Rehab in on-site meetings, delivering training and support for new and established providers.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Required:

  • Associates Degree in Applied Science in related field


Preferred:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Physical Therapy Assistant , or related field

  • Experience with Auditing and Charting

  • NYS Physical Therapy Assistant or eligible or

  • NYS Physical Therapist or eligible or

  • NYS Occupational Therapist or eligible
