As a Sister / Charge Nurse at our Guilford Hospital , you’re registered with the appropriate governing body and you have the relevant qualifications and experience, including NMC. With excellent leadership skills, you hold post-registration experience in care of patients, pre and post operatively, in everything from Cardiac to Colorectal, Orthopaedic, ENT, Gynae and Urology. 

As the oncology sister you will be;

  • Responsible for ensuring we provide exemplary care for patients undergoing cancer treatment.  Working with the Lead Cancer Nurse to education and support both patients and staff.

  • You will be responsible for the supervision and teaching of staff within the clinical area supporting the hospital management team in providing clinical leadership.

  • Have experience in the administration of SACT supported by a recognized university accredited course

  • Experience across Cancer/Oncology Nursing, providing evidence of the understanding of cancer and its treatment and the effects on patients and family

  • Be an effective communicator with patients and key stakeholders.

  • Comprehensive clinical expertise and knowledge of current professional practice and cancer policy requirements

  • Actively contribute to the ongoing improvement of quality information for patients and carers ensuring this is accessible, informative and that there are mechanisms in place for obtaining and responding to patient / carer feedback

  • To maintain an awareness of up to date professional and clinical practice issues and ensure that national policy is reflected in practice

  • Initiate, plan, lead and facilitate audit and clinical effectiveness projects/ programmes which provide clinical assurance and support the development of services from research and best practice guidance

  • Promote quality, innovation, productivity and improve quality of care and services for patients and stakeholders.

  • A chemotherapy qualification is essential, and a Cancer qualification is desirable. However, the role would be considered as a training and developmental role if required. There are plenty of opportunities for staff to develop their knowledge and skills and you will be offered support for your on-going professional development.

Our facilities include 49 en-suite patient bedrooms, 4 operating theatres, acute dependency and oncology units. We’ve been awarded the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark for cancer care and our Endoscopy service has achieved JAG accreditation. Our site is shared with an NHS Trust hospital, giving us access to their facilities. The working atmosphere is highly professional and stimulating, yet friendly and collaborative like that of a large family unit.

The hospital is easily accessible from the A3 or M25 and we are located about 1.5 miles from Guildford town centre.
