Tri-County Regional Centre for Education

 

The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Position:         Pre-Primary Support Worker (PPSW) 

                       Monday to Friday - 3 hours per day (approx. 10:30am -1:30pm - can change with scheduling)

 

Reports to:      School Principal, Pre-Primary Program Leads

 

The Pre-Primary Support Worker will be part of the Pre-Primary team and will provide required support within the day-to-day operations of the Pre-Primary program. This individual will work cooperatively with Early Childhood Educators (ECE’s), school-based staff, families, and community-based professionals to support children in the Pre-Primary program. The Pre-Primary Support Worker will provide assistance in the day-to-day operational requirements as determined by Education and Early Childhood Development and the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education.       

 

Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent;
  • Should have experience with children in a child care and early learning environment setting such as Pre-primary, regulated child care setting, early years programs, camp/recreation, after school programs or in a family/extended family setting;
  • Should have experience working collectively with others;
  • Nova Scotia Child Care Classification (Entry Level or Level 1), or be willing to complete entry level training in the first year of employment with support from the Pre Primary Team.

Accountabilities

The Pre-primary Support Worker shall perform tasks as discussed with the Supervisor of Pre-Primary, Program Lead and/or Lead Early Childhood Educator.  These tasks may be different from time to time. Support may include engaging and being a part of activities, routines and   children’s play alongside the ECE’s team and assisting in maintaining organization, tidiness and sanitary conditions of the Pre-primary learning environments.

Tasks may include but not be limited to the following:

  • Support early childhood educators in providing a positive, safe, nurturing and responsive learning environment to promote development in all areas of development through the guidance of the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework;
  • Engage in play with children;
  • Assist with snack and lunch time routines: sanitizing, set up of physical space and supporting a welcoming and positive experience for snacks and meals;
  • Collaborate and contribute observations made within the learning environment with ECE team to enhance ongoing learning opportunities for children within the Pre-primary program;
  • Assist with tidying, cleaning, sanitizing, general housekeeping duties as required;
  • Be willing to attend team and staff meetings to support and be a proactive contributor to address situations in a proactive approach;
  • Enhance the Pre-primary Program through the guidance and direction of the Lead ECE and Pre-primary Supervisor;
  • Other related tasks as assigned.

 

Non Union position - 3 hours per day - Monday to Friday - $20.85 per hour
