About the Roles

We are looking for two friendly and enthusiastic individuals to join our successful & busy catering team at the 1620s House & Garden, near Coalville, which was recently awarded the hidden gem accolade by Visit England.

The 1620s House & Garden is open Thursday – Sunday plus Bank holidays, April - October. The tearoom is a key part of our visitor offer; it is available to hire during the year, and we also run a comprehensive events programme. 

The successful candidates will support the Catering Officer in running every aspect of our welcoming and friendly tearoom as part of a small team.

As a Catering Assistant, you be responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving food and drinks to our internal and external customers, and at private hires and events. 

You will help in setting up the tearoom for daily use and for special events by moving furniture and equipment as necessary, as well as preparing service areas.

During and after service you will ensure that all areas of work, crockery, utensils and equipment are cleaned and stored following food safety management system and health & safety requirements.

About You

You will have previous food preparation and cooking experience, plus an understanding of quality control systems and food safety monitoring. You will also be able to work confidently within a team environment and deliver excellent customer service.

Both roles are annualised hours contracts with more hours during the summer season. You will be available to work on a rota which includes regular weekends and bank holidays. In addition, you will need to work at events throughout the year including in the evening and during the closed season. 

 To apply for this post, you must:

  • Have a basic knowledge of Food Safety/Health and Safety
  • Experience of food preparation and cookery 
  • Be able to lift and handle kitchen equipment and move dining furniture
  • Be able to communicate with staff, customers, and colleagues and to work as a member of a team
  • Have a flexible approach to working, be able to work outside of normal working hours including weekends and bank holidays
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Willingness to undertake training as and when required
