About this role

Job Description

Leads and guides Medical Assistants in the performance of duties.  Administers para-professional nursing care. Duties include, but are not limited to, preparing patient for physician and administering and/or recording laboratory tests. Assists in coordinating organization of patient needs including preparation and organization of patient clinic charts.

Job Responsibility

1.Leads and guides Medical Assistants in the performance of duites.
2.Provides input for the assessment and evaluation of staff performance.
3.Participates in orientation and ongoing training of staff.
4.Assists in prioritizing and assigning work based on workflow fluctuations.
5.Handles and/or acts as a resource for difficult or complex issues. 
6. Supports management in  determining methods and procedures for  new tasks
7. Point of contact for vendors 
8. Performs all funcitons of a medical assitant. 
9.Stocks patient rooms /department with supplies and equipment as necessary.
10.Conducts audit of department for supplies and equipment and performs ordering functions.Collaborates with members of health care team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care.May record patient history for medical staff review.
11.Performs measurement and screening procedures according to protocol which may include, but is not limited to, height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, audiometry and vision testing.Records and plots findings on patient chart.
12.Collects specimens including drawing blood, and/or assists the physician or nurses in collection of specimens, as required.Completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens according to standard procedure.
13.May perform electrocardiograms in accordance with physician orders.
14. Assists physicians and nurses with examinations and procedures related to the clinical area-of-assignment. Secures supplies,ensures patient is properly undressed and draped,provides instruments to physicians,holds patient as required, and assists patient after examination.
15. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stocks assigned rooms and cupboards and insures that par levels of supplies are maintained on a daily basis.
16.Insures that all data collected for procedures performed is recorded clearly and accurately on appropriate forms and in medical records.
17.Performs variety of other functions such as maintaining medical records, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, etc.Performs related duties, as required.
18.ADA Essential Functions 

Job Qualification

High School Diploma or equivalent required.  

Successful completion of Medical Assisting program at an accredited school OR 1-3 years of medical assistant experience, OR 1-3 years of Emergency Medical Technician experience with current NYS DOH EMT certification OR 1-3 years of CNA experience with valid Current Nursing Assistant Certification in New York State, required. plus specialized certifications as needed.

3-5 years of relevant experience, required.
