About this role

Job Description

 

Evaluates and treats patients with disabilities, injuries and/or disease in accordance with the written and signed prescription and/or referral of a state licensed physician or other State authorized practitioner.  

Job Responsibility

 

1.    Screens and assesses patients based on diagnosis and age to develop an individualized plan of care.
2.    Discusses findings, and collaborates with patients/family on the establishment of goals.
3.    Implements creative treatment activities based upon patient’s age, interest, education level and social history and cultural and spiritual considerations.
4.    Monitors patient response to treatment and changes plan, as needed.
5.    Develops a program to support performance in the home and community environment.
6.    Teaches specific activities/procedures to patient, family or hospital personnel in a manner consistent with their level of understanding.
7.    Monitors treatment environment for safety.
8.    Considers psychosocial aspects of care.
9.    Terminates services when maximum benefit is received and formulates follow-up plan, when indicated.
10.    Documents care and maintain records, as required.
11.    Schedules and prioritizes workload to meet productivity standards and deadlines.
12.    Provides in-service education to staff and clinical education to students.
13.    Performs related duties as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
1.    Occasional:  exertion in excess of 100 lbs. force; 
Frequent:  exertion in excess of 50 lbs force; and 
Constant   exertion in excess of 20 lbs. force.
2.    Constant:  balancing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting performed in combination
3.    Constant:  use of fine and gross motor bilateral hand dexterity.

Job Qualification

 

•    Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy, required.  Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy, preferred.   
•    Current New York State license or New York State limited permit.
•    Minimum of one (1) year related experience with Bachelors Degree, required.  No experience required with Masters Degree.
