Job Description
Administers anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in collaboration with anesthesiologists.
Job Responsibility
1.Performs pre and post anesthesia assessments on patients.
2.Assembles supplies and equipment for anesthetic cases and checks same for safety and proper function.
3.Stocks medication carts and anesthesia machines.
4.Assists in expediting operating room schedule by assisting Anesthesiologist in preparing patient for surgery.
5.Sets up IV fluids for each patient in pre-op holding area, and labels each with dates and times.
6.Under direct medical supervision, performs general anesthesia including airway management and all levels of sedation and monitored anesthesia care in an anesthetizing location.
7.Assists in post-anesthesia care, including medicating patients as needed, fluid management, respiratory weaning and endotracheal extubation.
8.Checks and orders supplies and medications when needed.
9.Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.
Job Qualification
Masters and/or Doctoral degree in related field, required.
Graduate from a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), required.
Unemcumbered license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required.
Certified by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) within one (1) year of graduating from an accredited nurse anesthesia program, required.
American Heart Association BCLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, required.
