About this role

Job Description

Renders direct nursing care to assigned patients and carries out other nursing tasks and functions including technical/laboratory procedures. Assists the professional nurse in the provision of nursing care on the clinical unit

Job Responsibility

  • Assists the registered nurse in provision of nursing care.
  • Gives direct patient care as assigned by the professional nurse.
  • Administers medications and treatments according to policy.
  • Observes, records and reports patients vital signs, symptoms and general condition to appropriate staff member.
  • Prepares for and assists physicians and others with diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  • Assists in patients’ teaching program.
  • Gathers data from patient/family which is used by Registered Nurse in making the initial assessment and developing a nursing care plan.
  • Recognizes emergencies and initiates action.
  • Maintains records relating to patient care
  • Records nursing care given, observations and patients’ responses to nursing interventions on progress notes.
  • Charts medications and treatments administered and patients’ reaction to same.
  • Participates in gathering data on patients upon admission to provide information from which a nursing care plan can be developed.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients by keeping the patient’s bedside unit and surroundings clean, safe and noise free as possible.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Completed accredited Practical Nurse program, required.
  • Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of New York
  • Previous related experience preferred.
