About this role
Renders direct nursing care to assigned patients and carries out other nursing tasks and functions including technical/laboratory procedures. Assists the professional nurse in the provision of nursing care on the clinical unit
Job Responsibility
- Assists the registered nurse in provision of nursing care.
- Gives direct patient care as assigned by the professional nurse.
- Administers medications and treatments according to policy.
- Observes, records and reports patients vital signs, symptoms and general condition to appropriate staff member.
- Prepares for and assists physicians and others with diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Assists in patients’ teaching program.
- Gathers data from patient/family which is used by Registered Nurse in making the initial assessment and developing a nursing care plan.
- Recognizes emergencies and initiates action.
- Maintains records relating to patient care
- Records nursing care given, observations and patients’ responses to nursing interventions on progress notes.
- Charts medications and treatments administered and patients’ reaction to same.
- Participates in gathering data on patients upon admission to provide information from which a nursing care plan can be developed.
- Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients by keeping the patient’s bedside unit and surroundings clean, safe and noise free as possible.
- Performs related duties, as required.
Job Qualification
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Completed accredited Practical Nurse program, required.
- Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of New York
- Previous related experience preferred.
