Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Test Engineer – Level 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located on-site at Schriever Space Force Base, in Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The selected Sr. Principal Test Engineer – Level 4 will support the Missile Defense Space Warning Tool (MDST) product line of the DE Task Order on the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC).  The Test Engineer will support the development of modeling and simulation of Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems. This includes designing, testing, analyzing, benchmarking, validating and verifying, documenting, and integrating simulation products for the MDST organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Testing new capabilities, documenting new features, and analyzing simulation performance
  • Write and execute test plans
  • Will work with product and development teams, as well as external users and customers, to determine acceptance criteria for new features
  • Support the modeling and simulation of missile defense systems
  • Support the agile software team within the context of a larger team
  • Support the development of simulation and software architecture
  • Interface with MDST customers and presenting technical briefings to MDST stakeholders
  • Research technical details related to various missile defense systems to better support model creation and enhancement

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related technical experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related technical experience, or a PhD and 4 year of related technical  experience.
  • Applicants must have an active U.S. Government security clearance at the DoD Top Secret level at the time of application, which is required to start.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
  • Self-starter with ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong, written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and customer personnel
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices
  • Understanding of software development and Linux platforms
  • Understanding of Eggplant implementation
  • Experience with both C++ and Java source code
  • Experience with Atlassian tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and GIT
  • Minimum 9 months’ experience in modeling and simulation with MDST products and tools
  • Minimum 18 months’ OPIR experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge/experience in SQL queries
  • Experience in agile software development methodologies including Scrum, Kanban, and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Experience with large code base M&S systems using an optimistic and/or conservative discrete event simulation platform
  • Knowledge or experience in several of the following: missile defense domain knowledge, command and control, and modeling and simulation development
  • Experience steering processes toward a standardized testing plan

Primary Level Salary Range: $117,500.00 - $176,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
