Description

The Maintenance Supervisor leads a small team of maintenance and janitorial personnel while remaining actively involved in hands-on maintenance work. This is a working supervisor role with primary responsibility for troubleshooting, repairing, and improving complex machinery, systems, and facilities issues within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

In addition to supervising daily maintenance activities, the Maintenance Supervisor serves as the department’s technical lead—personally addressing advanced mechanical, electrical, and facility challenges; guiding preventive and corrective maintenance efforts; and training and mentoring maintenance employees. This role is critical to minimizing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting safe, efficient production operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize and respond to equipment breakdowns and facility issues to minimize plant downtime and maintain production flow.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and improvement work on complex fabrication equipment, including Trumpf lasers, Fanuc robots, press brakes, welding equipment, and other machinery.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues, escalating or coordinating vendor support when appropriate.
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the maintenance team, including scheduling, work assignment, and performance management.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for advanced maintenance issues, providing direct guidance and hands-on support to maintenance personnel.
  • Collaborate with production supervisors and leads to prioritize maintenance needs and reduce disruptions to workflow.
  • Direct and oversee installation, setup, repair, and modification of production equipment, tooling, and material handling systems.
  • Support inspection, maintenance, and safe operation of overhead cranes, JIB cranes, hoists, and lifting devices, including coordination of required inspections and corrective actions.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate project work, corrective maintenance, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Research, recommend, and order maintenance supplies, tools, and replacement parts; manage spare parts and tooling inventory.
  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment and facilities to identify wear, safety concerns, or reliability risks and address them proactively.
  • Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and service providers for specialized repairs, crane inspections, HVAC, electrical work, landscaping, cleaning, and snow removal.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and manufacturer requirements; actively participate in safety meetings and safety improvement initiatives.
  • Perform housekeeping audits and ensure shop and facility standards are consistently met.
  • Train, mentor, and coach maintenance employees on equipment operation, troubleshooting techniques, crane safety, lockout/tagout, and preventive maintenance best practices.

Requirements

  •  Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year technical school in engineering, industrial maintenance, or a skilled trade; or equivalent combination of education and hands-on industry experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience required; prior supervisory or lead maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex production equipment in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong employee relations skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with maintenance staff, production teams, and leadership.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing automation, robotics, or CNC/laser equipment preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a forklift license.
