JOB SUMMARY

The Packaging Mechanic will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of high-speed packaging equipment in a very fast-paced manufacturing environment.

STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Rochester, NY

DEPARTMENT: Packaging Maintenance 

SCHEDULE: Must be able to work all shifts (including afternoons & overnights); weekends and OT as needed

JOB TYPE: Union

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance on production machines.
  • Follow diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications.  
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions through understanding of power transmission systems, fluid mechanics (hydraulics and pneumatics), and other machine components and systems.  
  • Locate root cause of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation and using precision measuring and testing instruments.  
  • Assist with change-overs and prepare machinery for scheduled production runs.  
  • Make necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality.  
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production. Diagnose and prioritize problems, replace or repair parts, test and adjust as required to return machinery to service.
  • Understand production systems and machinery thoroughly to identify and correct to avoid unnecessary or repeated downtime. Anticipate wear and/or downtime through routine observation and operator feedback.  
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track completed work orders and schedule future work.  
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), properly wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and follow all safety and company policies at all times.  
  • Perform other various job duties as needed.
  • Actively exhibit a commitment to support a diverse and inclusive work environment.    

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience troubleshooting and/or repairing manufacturing equipment is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS 

  • Must be able to frequently climb stairs, duck over and climb over conveyors/machines, and walk significant distances throughout the brewery.
  • Must be able to push, pull, crawl, and bend.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. and use hand tools/machinery as needed.
  • Must be able to do overhead work in limited circumstances/confined spaces.
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, including fluctuating temperatures.

Pay Rate: $24.35 – 36.45/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.  The reference pay range represents step pay rates for this job, as set forth in the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
