Residential Behavioral Health Treatment Program
Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Nursing Clerk provides essential clerical, administrative, and unit-support services to the nursing department. This role plays a vital part in supporting the delivery of high-quality resident care by maintaining accurate medical records, assisting with nursing documentation, coordinating communication, and ensuring compliance with facility, state, and federal regulations within a residential mental and behavioral health treatment setting.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and professional, with experience supporting clinical teams in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Maintain and organize resident medical records related to admissions, transfers, discharges, and daily documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards
Ensure nursing documentation is complete, accurate, and filed in a timely manner within the EMR and/or paper charts
Assist nursing staff with clerical tasks related to Medication Administration Records (MARs), treatment logs, and shift documentation
Prepare, distribute, and maintain reports, logs, and forms required for nursing operations
Track and log physician orders, laboratory results, referrals, and follow-up documentation
Communicate effectively with nursing staff, providers, admissions, and interdisciplinary team members to support continuity of care
Answer phones, route calls appropriately, and relay messages to nursing leadership and staff
Assist with scheduling-related documentation, call-in tracking, and maintaining unit communication boards as assigned
Support audits, surveys, and inspections by ensuring records and documentation are organized and readily available
Maintain strict confidentiality of resident information in compliance with HIPAA and facility standards
Identify and report documentation discrepancies or concerns to the Director of Nursing promptly
Assist with ordering, tracking, and stocking nursing forms and office supplies
Demonstrate professionalism and excellent customer service when interacting with residents, families, visitors, staff, vendors, and contractors
Notify appropriate leadership of urgent clerical or documentation-related issues during the shift
Perform other duties as assigned
High School Diploma or GED required
Completion of a medical office, health unit coordinator, or clerical training program preferred
Minimum of one (1) year of clerical or administrative experience in a healthcare or behavioral health setting preferred
Experience working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems strongly preferred
No licensure required
CPR/BLS certification preferred or must be obtained within a designated timeframe after hire
