Position Specific Description

This role has the responsibility of leading an Engineering team responsible for reviewing, executing, and validating NERC and Regional ISO requirements for Greenfield and Operational projects. The Substation Engineering Compliance Manager will be responsible for leading a team of Substation Engineers ensuring compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and Regional ISO Requirements.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive oversight of all activities required to achieve and maintain PRC-029 compliance across the entire NextEra Energy portfolio of generating facilities
  • Coordination with other groups (Corporate Compliance and Ethics, Regulatory, Operations etc) to ensure that all new renewable power generation projects meet applicable NERC Reliability Standards requirements from conceptual design through commissioning and handoff to commercial operation
    • Translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable engineering design criteria, operational procedures, and testing protocols
    • Demonstrate subject matter expert level understanding of PRC, FAC, VAR and other NERC Reliability Standards
    • Regional ISO requirements e.g. NOGRR 245, CAISO Bucket system
    • Process/Document Management of deliverables to all stakeholders
    • Develop key process indicators for performance for compliance activities
  • Project Management of large compliance projects
    • Securing engineering consulting resources
    • Developing/Managing budget
    • Coordination of engineering deliverables
    • Adhering to project timelines and schedules
  • Works collaboratively with project engineering resources in various disciplines to determine project priorities, work plans and lines of demarcation
  • Provide regular compliance status updates to senior leadership and escalate issues requiring executive attention or resources
  • Support Legal in any regulatory filings

 

Preferred Work Experience:

  • Seasoned leader with NERC compliance and renewable operational experience
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, time management, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines by setting priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and additional software knowledge depending on specialization
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical is preferred. 7+ years experience in the Renewable Energy Industry is highly preferred. Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience with a strong bias for action.
  • PMP and/or P.E. in related discipline is a plus.
  • Some travel required within North America.
