Position Summery:

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Supportive Roommate to provide daily living support to an adult with developmental disabilities who requires mental health and medical related assistance. This role plays a key part in ensuring the individual’s safety, wellbeing, independence, and quality of life, while following established health and behavioural support plans.

The Supportive Roommate will assist with:

• Meal planning and preparation following dietitian recommendations
• Scheduling and attending medical appointments
• Supporting personal care needs
• Providing person centred care while maintaining awareness of environmental risks
• Encouraging safe, informed decision making

This role also requires open communication with the supervisor, healthcare providers, and other team members. Participation in care planning, team meetings, and follow-up appointments is essential, as well as supporting the individual in working toward their goals and preferred community activities.

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum of a Diploma or Certificate in the Human Services field or Disability Sector 
• Must have valid class 5 drivers license and a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance
• Provide Home insurance and Commercial Liability insurance
• One to two years relevant experience in the human services field
• Intermediate in computer skills
• Minimum required training in Emergency First Aid & CPR Level A
• Willing to make appropriate modifications for the individual’s access requirements in the home
• Home visit & assessment required

Preferred Requirements: 

• Previously trained in and have experience with medication administration 
• Other current and relevant trainings such as Non-violent Crises Intervention, Abuse Prevention Response Protocol, Positive Behavior Supports, etc.
• Additional training requirements may include Mental Health
