Hourly Pay Range:

$19.89 - $28.84 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Ophthalmic Medical Assistant
  • Location: Glenbrook Hospital
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time (40 hours per week)
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:45am --5:00pm; Saturdays 8:00AM-1:00PM
  • Required Travel: Travel to and between Glenbrook Hospital and Lake Bluff office

What you will do:

  • Receive payments from patients and distributes appropriate receipts and change if necessary
  • Schedule in office and OR surgical procedures for ophthalmology general, pediatrics, comea and external disease, retina, LASIK, glaucoma, neuro ophthalmology and oculoplastics
  • Educate patients effectively on LASIK, PRK, PTK, lasers used, pre and post operative care and stay abreast on changes as pertaining to LASIK and services provided
  • Communicate effectively with patient about surgical costs, financial agreements, payment processes as pertaining to ocular surgical and non-surgical procedures
  • Chief Complaint, eye medical and eye surgery history
  • Patient and Past Family Social History
  • Review of Systems
  • Verify Prescription benefits in EPIC
  • History of Present Illness (HPI) to include at least 4 of the 8 "elements"
  • Medical Review, including clicking "Medications Reviewed" button in EPIC
  • Allergies
  • Vitals and pain assessment PRN
  • Record patient's distance visual acuity each eye separately, with/without correction
  • Record patient's near visual acuity each eye separately, with/without correction
  • Lensometry of patients spectacles for distance and near Rx indicating type of multi-focal (base curve and optical centers PRN)
  • Amsler Grid

What you will need:

  • Education: High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience required
  • Certification: CPR certification through the American Heart Association required
  • Experience: One year experience as a NorthShore Medical Group (PSA) Patient Support Associate in ophthalmology department or related experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft office programs preferred. Epic knowledge and experience preferred.
