Position Summary

For more than 80 years, we’ve led the charge in revolutionizing pet food production and its ability to enrich the lives of pets everywhere. By 1956, through innovative engineering, we literally reshaped pet care, introducing Dog Chow® as the first extruded dry food. We’re still at it today, with Tidy Cats®, the lightweight cat litter champion of the world and Pro Plan Bright Mind®, a breakthrough formula with enhanced botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in aging dogs. Such leadership requires constant innovation and renovation, which is so often rooted in engineering.

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will serve as a critical technical leader responsible for the design, development, and optimization of end-to-end process systems in the production of wet and dry pet foods, pet treats and cat litter. Your scope will encompass all material handling and processing operations—from raw ingredient unloading through final product packaging. You will leverage your deep expertise in food processing technologies to ensure safe, efficient and high-quality manufacturing outcomes.

  • Lead the planning, execution and coordination of complex process engineering functions across multiple capital projects and deliver innovative solutions in integrated food processing unit operations
  • Provide detailed process design and engineering support throughout the lifecycle of capital initiatives including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications and system layouts
  • Ensure seamless integration with broader project goals including cost, schedule, safety and quality
  • Evaluate vendor proposals for alignment with performance and compliance standards and direct third-party engineering firms, original equipment manufacturers (OEM), and other external partners to ensure design excellence and on-time project delivery
  • Collaborate closely with standards, quality assurance, operations, maintenance and capital engineering teams to ensure that process systems support innovation, food safety and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Confirm that all designs and process changes adhere to company standards, industry best practices, food safety regulations and environmental compliance requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline with 5+ years of experience in process systems design and project execution in a manufacturing, industrial, military or related environment

OR

  • Associate’s degree in applicable technical discipline with 7+ years of experience in process systems design and project execution in a manufacturing, industrial, military or related environment

OTHER

  • Must be willing to travel approximately 30% or more to meet business needs
