About this role

Nemours Children’s Health — supported by the long-standing financial strength and strategic guidance of the Nemours Foundation — is building the healthiest generation of children. As our system continues to grow, we are investing in the talent, resilience, and well-being of our associates, recognizing that the health of our workforce lays the foundation for our Whole Child Health mission.

We are seeking a Professional Fee Abstractor to join our remote Revenue Cycle team. This role is ideal for experienced pediatric nurses or seasoned coders who bring clinical insight, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to accuracy. You will play a critical part in advancing Nemours Children’s clinical excellence by ensuring comprehensive, compliant charge capture — supporting our ability to expand programs, innovate new models of care, and provide exceptional services to children who need us most.

As we enter a major growth phase — including a significant expansion on our Delaware campus — you will be part of a story defined by perseverance, opportunity, and meaningful impact. Our culture supports individuals who flourish, who enjoy teaching and collaborating, and who see challenges as pathways to progress.

What You’ll Do

  • Review physician documentation and ensure accurate, timely coding of all professional services using ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, and applicable modifiers.
  • Maintain 100% charge capture accuracy through diligent review of EPIC Charge Review Workqueues and related systems.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, managers, and team members regarding documentation requirements and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in provider education and training to strengthen documentation quality, revenue integrity, and compliance systemwide.
  • Stay current with evolving coding rules, specialty-specific updates, and organizational best practices.
  • Support Nemours Children’s strategic growth, including expanding clinical programs and operational capabilities across our Delaware campus and entire enterprise.

What Sets Us Children’s Apart

  • Whole Child Health approach: We care for children across seven dimensions of wellness—physical, emotional, social, financial, and more.
  • Healthiest Workforce commitment: We believe our associates must have the support, resources, and balance they need to lead healthy lives and model well-being for the families we serve.
  • Long, stable financial history: Nemours Children’s is strengthened by nearly a century of steady growth, sound financial stewardship, and mission-driven investment.
  • Backed by the Nemours Foundation: Our nonprofit structure allows us to reinvest in people, technology, research, and the communities we serve.
  • Culture of growth and innovation: We encourage professionals who are energized by building new programs, who enjoy teaching, and who want to work in environments—like Delaware and Jacksonville—where their impact is deeply felt by children with complex needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Active certification required: CPC, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT (CPC-A not eligible).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of coding experience.
  • Strongly preferred: pediatric experience and/or background in NICU, PICU, Orthopedics, or Cardiology.
  • Proficiency with EPIC and coding software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and clear, confident communication skills.
  • Must reside in a state where Nemours Children's Health is approved to hire.

Nemours Children’s Health is an internationally recognized children’s health system. With more than 1.7 million patient encounters annually, we provide medical care in five states through two freestanding state-of-the-art children’s hospitals — Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware and Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida. Our pediatric network includes 80 primary-urgent-and specialty care practices and more than 40 hospitalists serving 19 affiliated hospitals. We generate annual revenues of more than $1.7 billion derived from patient services, contributions from the Alfred I. DuPont Trust, as well as other income.

As one of the nation's premier pediatric health systems, we’re on a journey to discover better ways of approaching children’s health. Putting as much focus on prevention as cures and working hand in hand with the community to make every child’s world a place to thrive. It’s a journey that extends beyond our nationally recognized clinical treatment to an entire integrated spectrum of research, advocacy, education, and prevention, leading to the healthiest generations of children ever.

Inclusion and belonging guide our growth and strategy. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about, and committed to, leading efforts to provide culturally relevant care, reducing health disparities, and helping build an inclusive and supportive environment. All of our associates are expected to ensure that these philosophies are embedded in their day-to-day work with colleagues, patients and families.

About Nemours Children's Health

Nemours Children's Health is committed to improving the health of children. As a non-profit children’s health organization, we consider the health of every child to be a sacred trust.

Through family-centered care in our children’s hospitals and clinics in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida, as well as world-changing research, education and advocacy, Nemours fulfills the promise of a healthier tomorrow for all children — even those who may never enter our doors.

Nemours began more than 80 years ago with the vision of Alfred I. duPont to improve the lives of children and to do whatever it takes to prevent and treat even the most disabling childhood conditions.

Today, through our children’s hospitals and health system, we directly care for 250,000 children annually in Delaware Valley and Florida, including families who travel from across the country and world to see our specialists — treating every child as we would our own.

We also reach beyond the walls of our hospitals and clinics to be a voice for children on a national and international level, and to lead the way in prevention, intervention, education, and research.

Nemours is growing to better serve the children and families in our care. We have 1.1 million square feet of space currently devoted to providing children’s healthcare or under construction, all designed with significant input and advice from our patients and families.
