JOB DESCRIPTION – Native Maine Buyer

 

The buyer will ensure they are continuously making strategic and competitive buys, that inventory is consistently filled to adequate levels, and that the buying department moves in harmony with the sales department.  The procurement office is responsible for both commodity purchases and freight booking.   Position requires having strong procurement background, consistent follow through, excellent organizational skills, and strong and dynamic interpersonal skills.  This person takes pride in setting and executing goals, works well with a team, and gains satisfaction from winning.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Gathering multiple quotes when buying product
  • Paying attention to the quality of product purchased
  • Ensure that transportation is booked at a competitive price and that logistical efficiencies are utilized
  • Review open/consigned/inspected files before settlement to ensure that all market conditions are capitalized upon
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of long-term, sustainable, and effective relationships with suppliers as needed
  • Analyze data outputs to provide feedback and corrective actions
  • Assist across departments as needed
  • Collaborate in sales department initiatives to maximize competitive advantages “on the street”
  • Strong communication skills via phone and email required.

 

Qualification and Requirements

 

  • Procurement experience required – Preferably in perishable goods
  • Tenacity and dynamic personality
  • Ability to juggle many functions simultaneously
  • Experience with data entry and computer operation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Focused and outgoing personality

 

 

 

Physical Demands and Abilities

 

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus
  • Specific hearing abilities required for this job include adequate hearing over a the phone
  • Ability to multitask, reprioritize, and to make quick decisions and follow commands of supervising staff
  • Meet attendance standards

HOURS

Monday through Friday 

Occasional weekend hours to address potential customer issues

 

EVALUATION PERIODS

Annual evaluations.

 

HOLIDAYS

Our company normally observes the following holidays during the year:

• New Year's Day

• Thanksgiving Day

• Christmas Day

In addition to the above holidays, you receive three floating holidays that may be taken at your discretion with management approval

 

VACACTION TIME/SICK TIME

Native Maine Operations Inc provides employees with paid time off (PTO). PTO may be used for vacation, sick time, or other personal matters. PTO is available to employees in one-hour increments and should be used when the employee is not available to work their assigned schedule. PTO is calculated according to your work anniversary year.
