As a Mechanical Electrical Fitter, you’ll be a key member of the London East team supporting various substations/sites and the largest overhaul of the UK electricity grid in generations, essentially we’re upgrading the electricity grid so it’s fit for the future. Its BIG work and you will play a BIG part ensuring the lights stay on and society keeps moving.
The location of work for this role is Barking IG11 0BF. We are looking for candidates who live within a commutable distance and can travel to the office within 45 minutes.
At National Grid Electrical Mechanical Fitters are responsible for maintaining a wide range of works on Substation plant and equipment. This work is predominately outdoors and sometimes at height on a mobile platform. You’ll join an established team of fitters stripping down and rebuilding high voltage equipment replacing worn/aged components. Maintaining complex HV circuit breakers, transformers, high speed on load tap changers and cable systems, plus all kinds of ancillary equipment such as DC battery systems, air compressors and generators. This work includes installation of new equipment, refurbishment and maintenance of existing equipment, fault investigation and repair as well as routine condition monitoring.
You’ll benefit from our industry-leading training at our facilities based in Eakring, Nottinghamshire and other local substation sites, a training programme will be provided to fill in any skills gaps which will require occasional stays away from home, with generous mobility and overnight allowances. Throughout the year there may be some requirement for weekend work for which overtime will be paid.
