About this role

Join National Grid and start a career in the electricity industry?

We’re looking for a practically skilled, can-do individual to join our team as a Maintenance Assistant on high-voltage equipment. No two days are the same — you’ll be out in the field, travelling between substations in a company electric vehicle, inspecting and maintaining the equipment that keeps the UK’s power flowing. From spotting early signs of wear to providing access on sites for 3rd party contractors. You’ll be part of a team that keeps things running safely and efficiently, however you’ll mainly work by yourself focussing on your own responsibilities and productivity. You’ll live within 45 minutes travel of Wimbledon or Bexley.

This is a role for people who like to work outdoors, think on their feet, and take pride in doing the job right. You’ll follow digital work instructions on an iPad, use tools with confidence, and know how to spot when something’s not quite right. It can be repetitive, but always important. We’ll give you everything you need — full training, tools and PPE, and the support to build a long-term career in the energy sector. All you need to bring is practical know-how, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

Requirements:

  • Ideally worked in an operational environment, have practical skills and can follow digital work instructions.
  • Can work independently to targets and deadlines.
  • Keen eye for detail
  • You can use a laptop and iPad
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • You live within 45 minutes of Wimbledon or Bexley.

Desirable

  • Mechanical/electrical or general engineering experience.

Pay and Benefits

  • A starting package of £46,164 pa including allowances, plus vehicle from home to work.
  • 37 Hours - Monday to Friday.
  • Generous contributory pension scheme totalling up to 18%.

Visa and relocation are not available for this position.
