About this role

At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. But it’s so much more than that. National Grid supplies us with the environment to make it happen. As we generate momentum in the energy transition for all, we don’t plan on leaving any of our customers in the dark. So, join us as an FP&A Manager and find your superpower.

National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is entering an exciting phase of growth across its two core business units: Electricity Transmission (ET) and Strategic Infrastructure (SI). Together, these teams are at the forefront of delivering some of the UK’s most significant electricity transmission projects, enabling the connection of clean, low carbon energy across England and Wales.

As the FP&A Manager, you’ll support both ET and SI and will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial insight that drives these ambitious plans. You’ll lead the end to end forecasting and reporting cycles, ensuring they are robust, efficient, and provide high quality insight for a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Working closely with the FP&A Senior Manager, you will also help develop and enhance the quarterly forecasting process, strategic business plan, supporting continuous improvement across both business units and contributing to the success of some of the UK’s most transformative energy projects.

This role is based out of our Warwick office, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week with some regional travel but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead scenario planning and sensitivity analysis to inform strategic decisions, investments, and risk management.
  • Develop expertise in RIIO T3 and advise on its implications for the business.
  • Drive the use of advanced analytics and FP&A technologies to improve forecasting and reporting.
  • Deliver improved management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and long term planning for the Business Units.
  • Prepare Executive, Board and Group level reports, reviewing and challenging performance against targets.
  • Provide high quality ad hoc analysis to support decision making.
  • Partner with stakeholders to generate, interpret and present financial insights using clear visualisation.
  • Coordinate planning processes, timelines and performance metrics to meet stakeholder needs.
  • Lead FP&A improvement and transformation initiatives, ensuring smooth transition to enhanced processes and systems.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency and embed best practice across finance.
  • Develop a team of analysts, providing clear goals, support and coaching.

What You’ll Have:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with proven FP&A experience gained in a complex, fast moving environment.
  • Clear, confident communication skills, able to simplify complex financial and regulatory information for senior audiences.
  • Experience with finance systems (e.g. SAP, SAC) and advanced Excel capability.
  • Proven experience leading budgeting, forecasting and planning cycles in a complex or capital intensive environment.
  • Strong balance sheet and cash flow forecasting knowledge.
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to support investment decisions aligned to strategic priorities.
  • Credibility to influence stakeholders across engineering, delivery, regulatory and finance teams.
  • Resilience, drive and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • A pragmatic, hands on approach with strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent relationship building skills and the ability to bring teams together to deliver shared outcomes.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

What You’ll Get:

Up to £77,000 per annum, dependent on experience.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance with on target being 15% (with a maximum of 30%) and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
