About this role

The US Equites Development group is responsible for the architecture, development and support of NASDAQ’s North American equities market systems, which includes the core trading and post-trade systems, market data feeds, ticker plants, gateways, smart order routers, and monitoring suite. It is a rich and challenging environment as these systems are subject to requirements of high availability, high throughput, ultralow latency, and also have both rich and innovative functionality. Development is primarily in Java, running on a Linux-based environment.

The position creates, executes and maintains tests according to test scripts and test plans. Is required to test either front end or back end software components (or both) and apply industry best practice. Reviews system requirements and business processes; codes, tests, and debugs software solutions. Reports issues found back to development and/or project management teams and/or implementation teams.  May be required to develop and maintain testing tools to be used by the broader team. May also specialize in Quality Assurance, Quality Control and/or Process Improvement.

  • Conducts a range of quality control tests and analyses to ensure that all problems are resolved and that software meets or exceeds specified standards, development specifications or client requirements.

  • Creates test data files with valid and invalid records to thoroughly test program logic and verify system flow. Drafts, revises and approves test plans and scripts for other team members.

  • Uses expertise when collaborating with internal or external team members to plan all applicable test phases to ensure that applicable test phases are successfully completed and documented and there is a plan for problem resolution.

  • Documents and proposes for approval the release engineering procedures, so that the process can continually be reviewed and improved.

  • When specializing in QA, develops and maintain the quality of products and processes, including standard procedures and methods.

  • When specializing in Business Process Improvement would collect and analyze process data to make recommendations on improved business practices and procedures.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Proficient in Software QA Functional Testing

  • Proficient in Junit / Automated Testing

  • Proficient in FIX Messaging testing

  • Preferred knowledge with financial/trading software testing

  • Self directed, motivated

  • Proficient in FIX Messaging testing


Technical Requirements:

  • Proficient in Linux, backend testing

  • Scripting with shell, pearl, python

  • Source Code Control (SVN, Git)

  • Bug tracking (TRAC, Jira)

  • Java language and Runtime


This position will be located in Toronto, and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 2 days a week in office, subject to change, providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.

The base pay range for this role is $106,000 - $148,000. In addition to base salary, Nasdaq provides a generous annual bonus/commission (short-term incentive), and equity (long-term incentive), comprehensive benefits, and opportunity for growth. Exact compensation may vary based on several job-related factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to: skill set, experience, education/training, business needs and market demands.
