Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Pharmacy Audit Technician. This position will be located at our Corporate Office in Birmingham, AL.

 

The Pharmacy Audit Technician is a corporate-based role responsible for supporting controlled substance audits, inventory reconciliation, and regulatory compliance across multiple healthcare facilities. This position focuses on audit, documentation, and regulatory support, rather than dispensing or direct patient care.

The role serves as a centralized resource to promote consistent interpretation of controlled substance requirements, support regulatory inspections, and strengthen inventory accountability across sites.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

 

Controlled Substance Auditing & Inventory Support

  • Perform regular audits of controlled substance inventory and documentation across assigned facilities
  • Review and reconcile medication inventory records and administration documentation
  • Validate quantities based on packaging, repackaging, and unit-of-use practices
  • Identify discrepancies, trends, or risks and escalate appropriately

Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Assist facilities during DEA inspections and follow-up inquiries
  • Support preparation for Board of Pharmacy surveys and regulatory reviews
  • Help ensure required documentation is available, complete, and retained appropriately
  • Maintain working knowledge of federal and state controlled substance regulations

Standardization & Process Support

  • Support consistent audit and documentation practices across all facilities
  • Provide guidance to site leadership on audit readiness expectations
  • Assist with development of tools, checklists, and reference materials that support compliance
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to controlled substance accountability

Audit Readiness & Validation

  • Participate in or support mock audits and readiness reviews
  • Assist with follow-up actions identified during audits or inspections
  • Help reinforce separation of stock inventory accountability from patient-specific records

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain organized audit files and reconciliation documentation
  • Support centralized document management and retention practices
  • Prepare summaries or reports for leadership as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience as a pharmacy technician or in pharmacy compliance, inventory management, auditing, or regulatory support
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to analyze inventory and administration records
  • Ability to work independently in a multi-site, corporate environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience supporting:
    • DEA inspections or regulatory audits
    • Board of Pharmacy surveys
    • Controlled substance inventory processes
  • Experience in correctional healthcare, institutional pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, or long-term care settings
  • Familiarity with pharmacy or healthcare documentation systems
