Lead complex, high‑impact emergency management policy projects within a dynamic, cross‑agency coordination team delivering state priorities.

About the Role

As an Associate Director, Policy in the Policy and Coordination team of the Emergency Management Branch, you will lead complex, cross‑agency policy projects that guide whole‑of‑government responses and enhance NSW’s emergency management system.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders across government to analyse high‑risk issues, shape strategic proposals and prepare high‑quality advice for executives and Ministers.

You will have a key role in coordinating major initiatives, driving evidence‑based policy solutions and supporting the delivery of reforms that strengthen community outcomes.

You will join our Policy and Coordination team within the Emergency Management Branch in the Delivery and Engagement Group - responsible for state‑significant coordination, capability development and emergency management policy reform.

We're Looking For

  • Emergency Management Knowledge: Experience in emergency management policy, frameworks or coordination, and understanding of cross agency arrangements
  • People Leadership: Experience managing and developing a small policy team, including providing direction, coaching, and support to deliver high quality work
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to build trusted relationships and influence senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Complex Problem Solving: Advanced capability in analysing complex issues and developing practical, strategic solutions
  • Project Leadership: Proven experience leading multi stream policy or reform projects in a fast paced environment
  • Communication Excellence: Ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling advice for diverse audiences
  • Collaboration: Skilled at working across agencies, bringing people together to solve shared policy challenges.
