Position Overview

The role of the Credit Analyst within the Japanese Corporate Team involves conducting comprehensive credit assessments of Japanese corporates operating in India. The analyst will support the business and risk teams by preparing high‑quality credit reviews, underwriting proposals, performing financial and industry analyses, and ensuring adherence to internal credit policies and regulatory guidelines. This position requires strong analytical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage relationships with internal stakeholders while working on large and complex corporate clients.

Key Responsibilities

1. Credit Assessment & Analysis

  • Conduct detailed financial statement analysis, including profitability, liquidity, leverage, cash flows, and working capital assessment.
  • Prepare end-to-end credit appraisal memos for new proposals, renewals, enhancements, and annual reviews.
  • Analyze business models, industry outlook, market position, and competitive landscape of Japanese corporates.
  • Identify key credit risks, mitigants, and provide well‑reasoned recommendations.

2. Underwriting & Portfolio Management

  • Underwrite large corporate exposures across working capital, term loans, trade finance, and treasury-linked products.
  • Monitor portfolio health and track early warning indicators (EWI).
  • Conduct periodic portfolio reviews, covenant monitoring, and credit limit utilization checks.
  • Work closely with the Relationship Management (RM) team to structure facilities aligned with risk appetite.

3. Japanese Corporate Coverage

  • Develop a strong understanding of typical Japanese corporate business practices, group structures, and financial frameworks.
  • Liaise with internal Japanese corporate coverage team for information collection and credit clarifications.
  • Engage with client representatives (where needed), especially for complex credit structures.

4. Compliance, Documentation & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, risk guidelines, RBI norms, and audit requirements.
  • Coordinate with legal, compliance, and operations for documentation and limit activation.
  • Support preparation of regulatory and internal management reports.

5. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work with risk, operations, legal, and compliance teams for seamless credit processing.
  • Provide analytical support during client meetings and negotiations alongside RM team.
  • Assist in internal rating assessments and scorecard updates.

Key Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of financial analysis, corporate banking products, and credit underwriting.
  • Familiarity with assessment of large corporates, including diversified groups and complex structures.
  • Proficiency in Excel, financial modelling, and credit rating tools.

Behavioral Skills

  • Analytical thinking and ability to interpret complex financial information.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and structured approach.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills—ability to articulate credit rationale clearly.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple transactions concurrently.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: MBA (Finance), CA, CFA, or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 3–6 years of experience in corporate credit analysis, underwriting, or risk roles.
