As a Underwriter at MSIG USA, you will play a key role in supporting the growth and profitability of our Trade Credit & Political Risk portfolio. This underwriting position focuses on evaluating and servicing a range of risks and exposures while developing strong broker relationships and contributing to customized insurance solutions. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure underwriting excellence and client satisfaction.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate and underwrite marine risks within assigned authority, ensuring alignment with company guidelines and risk appetite

  • Analyze submissions, financials, and loss histories to assess risk quality and pricing adequacy

  • Apply appropriate rating methodologies and ensure compliance with regulatory filings and state requirements

  • Draft and review policy forms, endorsements, and coverage terms tailored to client needs

  • Maintain accurate and complete underwriting documentation in accordance with internal and external standards

  • Monitor portfolio performance, including premium trends, loss ratios, and underwriting results

  • Collaborate with brokers through meetings and account reviews to strengthen relationships and identify growth opportunities

  • Partner with Risk Engineering, Claims, and Marketing teams to support retention and new business initiatives

  • Contribute to special projects and team initiatives as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • 3-4 years of insurance industry experience preferred

  • Prior experience as an Underwriting Assistant or Associate is a plus

  • Basic understanding of marine insurance principles, policy forms, rating manuals, and regulatory frameworks a plus

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Effective interpersonal and negotiation abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn internal systems

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and insurance education (e.g., AMIM, CPCU)
