Our vision is to restore the critical balance between people and nature within a generation, and as part of this commitment, we are offering an exciting opportunity for a Marine Operations Officer to join our team. The Marine Operations Officer will support the Marine Program Manager in implementing the existing Super Coral Program, managing the activities of the Marine Conservation Centre, and raising awareness amongst Ocean Cay visitors on the importance of marine conservation. She/he will also contribute to the identification and implementation of new opportunities that advance the Foundation’s mission in The Bahamas.

 
 

Your Impact

Under the supervision of the Marine Program Manager, the Marine Operation Officer will:

• Assist in the day-to-day running of the Super Coral Reefs Programme (SCRP) and the Marine Conservation Centre.
• Liaise with MSC Cruises/Ocean Cay employees and departments to ensure the timely implementation of program’s activities.
• Conduct marine ecological surveys using both SCUBA and snorkel equipment.
• Collect, manage, and report ecological, oceanographic, and environmental data.
• Assist with activities specific to coral husbandry within in situ ocean nurseries and ex situ coral aquarium systems.
• Maintain and clean both land-based coral aquarium as well as ocean based coral nurseries.
• Collect, frag, outplant and monitor corals in-situ.
• Assist in writing detailed reports on conservation and research findings.
• Support on all program administrative and logistic duties related to the foundation’s activities in Ocean Cay and The Bahamas (registration, official documentation submission, preparation of missions from Foundation and related stakeholders’ people to Ocean Cay, etc...).
• Organise and plan activities for interns and trainees as well as for Ocean Cay visitors, in line with the Super Coral Program deliverables, and an engagement strategy for awareness raising and outreach.

Your Journey so far

Diving Qualifications:
• Advanced Open Water certification preferred.
• DAN insurance

Marine Biology Knowledge:
• Possess advance knowledge of tropical marine biology and coral reef ecology.
• Advance identification skills for coral and fish species in The Bahamas.
• Basic understanding or recognised willingness on bio-lab operations regarding coral research in the context of a touristic operating environment.
• Ability to understand or willingness to learn and analyse scientific data and research outcomes.

Qualifications:
• Bahamian work authorization is preferred.
• Undergraduate degree in marine biology preferred.
• 2 years’ experience in similar position.
• Captain’s licence preferred.
