Start Date:

Job Description:

The Mount Holyoke College Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin on July 1, 2026. Candidates from all fields of mathematics (applied and pure) will be considered. Qualifications include a Ph.D. (or other terminal degree) or ABD required in mathematics or a related field; a commitment to teaching and scholarship in a liberal arts environment; and evidence of classroom effectiveness.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has a collaborative curriculum, offering majors in mathematics and statistics, as well as supporting a data science major. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to effective teaching and student success at all levels of our undergraduate curriculum. Members of the department acknowledge the historical underrepresentation of marginalized groups in mathematics and statistics, including gender minorities, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, disabled individuals, and others. Candidates will strive to work with the department to create an environment that welcomes and supports individuals from all backgrounds. In addition to a teaching statement, a full application requires a statement on mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. We acknowledge there is overlap between these two statements; please use the mentoring statement to elaborate upon or highlight particular approaches to mentoring outside of the classroom.

Mount Holyoke College is an institution that values excellence in both teaching and research. We seek candidates with sustainable research programs who are committed to the intellectual life of the college, broadly defined, and who have an active interest in working with undergraduates on research projects. To support an active research program, the college and department have numerous funding opportunities and tenure-track faculty teach two courses per semester. Mount Holyoke College is a member of the Five College Consortium, which encourages and facilitates collaboration among its members. Faculty and students across the consortium regularly meet to share research and curricular initiatives.

Electronic submission of application materials through http://www.mathjobs.org is required. A completed application should include:

a cover letter addressing your interest in Mount Holyoke College, a CV, a statement concerning teaching practices, a statement concerning research interests, including a description of how undergraduates could be involved, a statement that addresses experience with and commitment to mentoring a diverse student body, and three letters of reference submitted through MathJobs. At least one letter should comment specifically on teaching.

Though applications will be accepted until the position is filled, please submit by October 17, 2025 to receive full consideration. For further information about the department go to http://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/math/. You may also contact the search chair Professor Jen Paulhus (email: [email protected]) with questions.

Minimum starting rate of pay: $90,000.
