MOTAT is on the lookout for an Exhibitions Content Developer to help us bring stories of science, technology, and innovation in Aotearoa to life. This is your chance to shape the way our visitors experience and understand the world, through exhibitions that are imaginative, inclusive, and deeply engaging.
You’ll be joining a passionate and creative rōpū who are committed to working collaboratively, with a shared purpose that places our visitors at the heart of everything we do. Our team is actively embedding te ao Māori and mātauranga Māori into our mahi, and we strive to uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi in both process and practice to create richer, more meaningful visitor experiences that reflect who we are here in Aotearoa.
Mō te tūranga - About the Role
As an Exhibitions Content Developer you’ll help shape how our manuhiri experience science, technology, and innovation in Aotearoa through stories that are creative, authentic, and deeply engaging.
You’ll research, develop, and produce innovative exhibition content across text, imagery, interactives, and digital media weaving together te ao Māori, mātauranga Māori and Western knowledge to create experiences that inspire and connect. Collaboration is at the heart of this role. You’ll work closely with designers, curators, project managers, and the wider MOTAT team to develop interpretation that is audience focused, inclusive, and aligned with our kaupapa. Building relationships will be central to your mahi, ensuring our storytelling reflects genuine partnership and shared voices.

He kōrero mōu - About You
You’re a storyteller, a thinker, and a collaborator. You love the challenge of making complex ideas accessible and exciting for a wide range of audiences from tamariki and rangatahi to lifelong learners.
You’ll bring:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in English and ideally some te reo Māori.
- A flair for developing creative and original content that connects with diverse audiences.
- Experience researching and translating ideas into engaging visitor experiences.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work across multiple disciplines.
- An interest in science, technology, innovation, or the ways they shape Aotearoa’s past, present, and future.
We are looking for someone who has experience in developing exhibitions ideally within a museum. Alongside this, we value ngākau auaha (creative spirit), pākiki (curiosity), and openness to new ways of working.
