Summary
  • This position assists the flow of patient care to make certain needs are met in a timely fashion. Communicates with other members of the specialty team to facilitate the care of the patient and the goals of the specialty team.
  • This position works under the supervision of the Director and the operating surgeon and is employed by Mosaic Health System.
Duties
  • Assumes responsibility for setting up and passing instruments, labeling medications, holding retractors, assisting the surgeon, and assists with circulating duties as necessary. Applies principles of asepsis and infection control skillfully
  • Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique relative to operative procedures wherein the RNFA assists.
  • Provides exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging techniques.
  • Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon during the operative procedure.
  • Assists with positioning, prepping, draping of the patient, and with transfer of the patient to and from the operating room.
  • Applies surgical dressings.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required, BSN preferred.
  • Successful completion of accredited course in surgical assisting or first assisting is required.
  • Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure State of Missouri is required. 
  • Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant - CRNFA to be verified through Mosaic credentialing is required. Covered on Mosaic insurance since RNFA can close cases on their own. 
  • Basic Life Support certification required upon hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support is preferred. 
  • 5 years of diversified perioperative nursing experience; both scrubbing and circulating proficiency is required.
